A sustained release pharmaceutical formulation includes a sustained release excipient including a gelling agent, an inert pharmaceutical diluent, an optional cationic crosslinking agent, and a medicament having moderate to poor solubility is disclosed. In certain embodiments, the sustained release excipient is granulated with a solution or suspension of a hydrophobic polymer in an amount effective to slow the hydration of the gelling agent when the formulation is exposed to an environmental fluid. In another embodiment, the tablet is coated with a hydrophobic polymer.

The nail marking unit (4) responds to the flaw detection signal from the flaw detector (2) to thereby strike a steel nail (8) into the flaw. A fusing and cutting unit (6) receives a fusion instruction signal from the flaw detector (2) through a fusing and cutting controller (5) and responds by fusing and cutting the flaw using the nail as a starting point.

Non-contact supersonic flaw detection is carried out as follows: focussing a pulsed laser beam having a wave length in the infra-red region via a lens (3), projecting the beam upon a specimen (4), allowing ultrasonic waves generated by the impact of the incident beam to propagate through the specimen (4), and detecting the ultrasonic waves by an electromagnetic ultrasonic probe (5) thereby to test for flaws (6) in the specimen.
