    摘要： This invention provides a method permitting the delayed viewing of a continuous sequential signal transmission, the method comprising recording a digitised version of the continuous sequential signal transmission on an ongoing basis onto a digital recording medium (s), and subsequently reading the recorded signals whilst continuing to record the real time transmissions onto the said digital recording medium, and converting the recovered signals into ascreen readable form and viewing on a television (TV). Apparatus to permit the delayed viewing of a continuous sequential signal transmission, the apparatus comprising means to receive (r) and process (C, D, E) the continuous sequential signal transmission and where necessary to convert into a digital output, means to write the signal to a storage medium and means to read a signal recorded on the storage medium, the write and read means being operable simultaneously to permit reading of previously recorded signals whilst signals currently being received are being recorded. The invention also provides a method permitting the delayed viewing of a continuous signal transmission upon selection of additional on screen menus, the method comprising automatically recording a version of the continuous signal transmission onto a digital storage medium when additional temporarily on screen graphic and/or text and/or video images are displayed, re-commencing delayed read of digitally stored signal and displaying same when prompted or automatically when said temporarily on screen graphics and/or text and/or video images are no longer displayed.

    摘要： Apparatus for receiving storing and displaying digital television programs comprising first (1) and second (2) parts. The first part comprises a base station and the second part comprises a portable player unit that incorporates a digital storage device (23) for recording and playback of digital television programs. The base station incorporates a digital television receiver (T1, T2) operable to supply decoded television signals to a primary television (31) connected to said base station, and the base station digital receiver is adapted to supply coded digital television program to said digital storage device (23) in the portable player unit (2). The base station comprises a docking station (1) for the portable player unit (2) and the portable player unit (2) incorporates a display device (27). In addition means is provided for programming record events and to display pending scheduled recording events. One or both of the first and second parts incorporate said means for programming record events and means to display pending scheduled recording events.
    Means is provided to synchronize scheduled record events independently created on the portable player unit and the docking station.
    The system components operate in at least two modes depending on whether said components are operated as a single digital television system or as two independent units.

    摘要： An interactive television control/operating system for taking a copy of images displayed on a television, said copy comprising a segment of the displayed contents with a start and end point where the duration is substantially shorter than the original entire (broadcast) program, comprising means for selecting at least a start point for commencement of recording, memory means for storing a plurality of images corresponding to said segment whereby said plurality of images are stored as digital representations, means for converting said stored digital representation in to a signal for display on television, and means for selecting from said plurality of said segments for display.
    Means is provided for categorising said segments in to groups and a means for archiving said groups onto video tape or other storage medium in either digital or analogue signal form, and wherein said means for archiving said groups onto video tape further comprises means for automatically controlling a video recorder to enable a new segment to be appended to an area of the tape associated with the selected category.
    Means is provided for selecting segments for display based on a television display including textural menu and/or graphical menu and/or visual representation of said segments and a means for causing a video recorder to move to the position of the recorded segments and play said segments whereby said segments are retrieved and displayed on a television.
