The invention concerns a method and a device for continuous adjustment of control values of an electrical appliance by means of a remote control (1), for example, an audio or video remote control. The electrical energy required for adjusting the control values is produced by an electrical generator (13) located in the remote control (1). After a start command to adjust a control value has been emitted, the remote control electronics system switches into an essentially zero-current state until a subsequent stop command is emitted which terminates the automatically advancing adjustment of the control value. Emission of said stop command is carried out using a break contact which does not close until the actuated key (4) is released.

A scanner system digitizes 35mm transparencies or negatives, and converts the image to a format compatible with popular microcomputer systems. This scanner system can accommodate various formats, and has variable zoom, pan and window size. Color separation is accomplished by an illumination arrangement causing rapid sequential generation of red, green and blue components. A low wattage light source is used, and color balance is achieved by adjusting the respective exposure times of the three primary colors. The system has internal calibration to achieve repeatable color balance. The system implements a wide variety of color coding schemes ranging in resolution from 1 to 24 bits. An adaptive process compresses the data in order to optimize the color selection process. The illumination optics are anamorphotic for high efficiency. Mechanical and electrical interfaces are compatible with a conventional 5-1/4" floppy disk drive standard.

A method and apparatus to convert absolute angular or linear position to digital information utilizes a single track. Multiple sensors are placed at essentially equal intervals along a track, especially a single track. The output from the group of sensors is converted to natural binary format by combinatorial logic. The sensors may be of different types, for example maybe mechanical contacts, optical, magnetic/inductive, or capacitive transducers, and may distinguish two or more levels each. Such an encoder can be used as a potentiometer, multiposition switch, shaft encoder, or as length measurement device. The code is of the Gray-code kind, in other words adjacent positional readings have a Hamming distance of one.
