The invention concerns a method for making flat thin elements which consists in: producing a zirconium alloy blank also containing, besides the inevitable impurities, 0.8 to 1.3 % of niobium, 1100 to 1800 ppm of oxygen, and 10 to 35 ppm of sulphur; carrying out a β hardening and hot rolling to obtain a blank and performing on it at least three cold rolling passes with intermediate annealing heat treatments. One of the intermediate heat treatments is performed for a duration of at least 5 hours at a temperature less than 560 °C and all the optional treatments subsequent to the long treatment are carried out at a temperature less than 620 °C for not more than 15 minutes.

The invention relates to a method for separating zirconium and hafnium tetrachloride with the aid of a solvent comprising an alkaline metal solvent formed from an alkaline metal chloride salt and an acid metal chloride A, e.g. a chloroaluminate or an alkaline chloroferrate, and a metal chloride or an acid metaloid chloride B, whose acidity value is lower than that of the acid metal chloride A. The metal chloride or acid metalloid chloride B has an acidity value which is lower than that of the acid metal chloride A. The metal chloride or acid metalloid chloride B is preferably chosen from Mg, Zn and Cu chloride. The method can involve separation in a continuous manner, by selective absorption of the tetrachloride vapours by the solvent in a substantially or totally melted state.

The invention concerns a method from separating zirconium and hafnium for a mixture of ZrCI4 and HfCI4 containing 3 wt. % or less of Hf based on Zr + Hf, the method including the following steps: 1) hydrolyzing a mixture of ZrCI4 and HfCI4 in an aqueous solution of strong inorganic acid, so as to form an aqueous solution having 7 to 12 moles of acid per liter; 2) passing the solution obtained at step 1) in an anion exchanging resin; 3) optionally eluting a fraction of said aqueous solution having 7 to 12 moles of acid per liter, enriched in hafnium; 4) removing the resin of the acid solution containing Zr and Hf; 5) passing in the resin an aqueous solution to detach the zirconium compounds fixed to the resin, and recovering a zirconium-enriched fraction.

The invention concerns a method for making a flat zirconium alloy product, characterized in that it consists in: preparing a zirconium alloy ingot containing at least 95 % of zirconium; shaping said alloy to obtain a flat product; subjecting said product to a hardening treatment β to obtain an acicular structure; subjecting said product to a single-pass rolling treatment without intermediate annealing, between room temperature and 200 °C, with a reduction rate between 2 and 20 %; and subjecting said flat product to an annealing treatment α or α + β between 500 and 800 °C for 2 minutes to 10 hours. The invention also concerns the resulting flat zirconium alloy product, and a fuel assembly component for a nuclear power plant reactor obtained by shaping said product.

La présente invention est relative à un procédé de fabrication de tubes à base de zirconium formés de couches de composition différente. Le procédé consiste à préparer l'ébauche tubulaire destinée à former la couche externe du tube par roulage-soudage d'une feuille puis, à l'enfiler sur une autre ébauche tubulaire ou bloc d'âme de plus petit diamètre obtenu par perçage d'une billette et éventuellement revêtu intérieurement d'un placage, à souder les dites ébauches à leurs extrémités, enfin à soumettre l'ensemble à un traitement de mise en solution en phase bêta, suivi d'une trempe à l'eau et d'un filage. L'invention trouve son application dans la réalisation de tubes du type Duplex ou Triplex avec une mise au mille de zirconium améliorée tout en obtenant une bonne adhérence entre les couches dudit tube.
