    摘要： A composite placement machine has a simplified fiber delivery path from a creel to a lay-up table. A carriage is mounted for motion in the Y-axis along the length of an overhead beam. A composite placement head having a shiftable compaction roller is supported by the carriage. A stationary creel at one end of the overhead beam forms a band of composite material having a width that extends in the X-axis. A lay-up table is mounted for motion in the X-axis and rotary motion about a C-axis that is perpendicular to the X and Y-axes. The motion of the head in the Y-axis, the shiftable compaction roller, and the motion of the lay-up table X-axis and the C-axis allows the head to apply composite material to the lay-up table in both Y-axis directions in any orientation without twisting the band of composite material relative to the X and Y-axes.

The spindle engages with a locking and unlocking system to attach the removable module to the frame of the machine and the tool holder to the spindle. Locking and unlocking is achieved by movement of at least one moving piece in translation along the axis (D) during the travel of the spindle.

    摘要： A fiber placement machine (10) has a fiber placement head (22) and a K-axis housing (24) that is supplied with fiber tow from a creel. The fiber placement head (22) is mounted on the front of the K-axis housing (24). The fiber placement head (22) has a compaction roller (27) and a cut, clamp, and restart mechanism (26) positioned adjacent to the compaction roller (27) that receives fiber tow from the K-axis housing (24). A separable coupling (44) connects the fiber placement head (22) to the K-axis housing (24), whereby the fiber placement head (22) may be disconnected from the K-axis housing (24) for docking purposes.
