Here, T denotes a tensile strength of the protective sleeve before a treatment and T' denotes a tensile strength of the protective sleeve after the treatment. The tensile strength is measured in accordance with JIS L1013-8.5.1, and the treatment is carried out in such a manner that the entire protective sleeve is put into a closed container containing a mixture of 5 weight% of water and 95 weight% of automatic transmission fluid, followed by heating the container so that a temperature of the mixture is maintained at 150°C for 1,000 hours.

A process for the preparation of a polyethylene terephthalate monofilament is provided in which a non-drawn monofilament formed from 100 ppw of polyethylene terephthalate and 5-150 ppw of a modified polyethylene terephthalate is subjected to two drawings, the first at 85-100°C in humid conditions, increasing the size by 2.8 to 4.0 times, the second at 180-250°C in a gas atmosphere, increasing the size by 1.5-2.5 times, and then to heat treatment at 180-250°C and a take-up ratio of 0.9-1.0. The monofilament prepared has been found to have a substantially identical or higher knot strength against tension and transparency, and an increased knot strength against impact than previously used polyethylene terephthalate monofilaments, and the monofilament also has been found to be superior to conventional nylon monofilaments without loss of linear strength and transparency. Such monofilaments find use as fishing line and racket gut.

A racket string 10 of the present invention includes a synthetic fiber. The cross section is flattened by heating, compressing, and deforming the string after it has been formed, and an indentation is made in any part of the string. The flattened string is wound in a substantially non-twisted state. A method for producing the racket string includes heating the string at a temperature of Tg (°C) or more and Tm - 10 (°C) or less, where Tg (°C) represents a glass transition point and Tm (°C) represents a melting point of a main synthetic fiber constituting the string, compressing and deforming the string between rollers 7a and 7b that are arranged with a predetermined clearance therebetween; and then cooling and winding up the string. In a racket strung with the racket string of the present invention, a principal surface of a hitting surface of the racket is formed of the flat surfaces of the string, and the strings include uneven portions due to torsion that are present partially and non-uniformly on the hitting surface of the racket. Thus, the present invention provides a racket string that can make full use of the features of the flat surface, a method for producing the racket string, and a racket strung with the racket string.

A racquet string includes a core component whose principal component is a synthetic fiber, and a surface resin component, wherein fullerenes or by-product carbon particles derived from manufacture of fullerenes are blended into the surface resin component, and wherein the blended percentage content is in a range of at least 0.01 wt% and at most 5.0 wt% of the entire string. The surface resin component may be formed as a sheath component by coating or by composite spinning. It is preferable that the amount of fullerenes or by-product carbon particles derived from the manufacture of fullerenes that is included in the surface resin component is in a range of at least 0.1 wt% and at most 25 wt%. Thus, the durability of the racquet string is improved without substantially changing its physical properties.
