摘要： A temperature therapy pad for use with a person including a thermal unit for making the pad either hot or cold and a therapeutic slot extending from one side of the pad which substantially divides the pad into sections. An elastic member may extend across the slot. The therapy pad can include a strap or an adhesive for attaching the therapy pad to a user's body. The thermal unit can be an electric heating coil and include a controller. The thermal unit may also be a material which has a high specific heat capacity or a material which heats when exposed to oxygen. The thermal unit may also be in the form of two separate chemical substances which change temperature when mixed. Another embodiment is for a temperature therapy pad including a substance which presents a heating or cooling sensation to a user's skin.

摘要： A rectal thermometer for measuring the temperature of a patient including a disk or oval-shaped member having a circumferential edge and first and second sides. Along the edge is a temperature display that is viewable during the temperature taking process without having to first remove the thermometer from the anal canal. The first and second sides form a concave shape and include an actuation switch and battery compartment. Connected to the main housing via a probe guard portion is a controlled-depth temperature sensing probe which can be fully inserted into the anal canal without concern for over-insertion. The probe guard portion, which may be formed of flexible material, is adapted such that its thickness gradually increases proximate the main housing and serves to slow down the entry of the probe within the anal canal. Finally, the rectal thermometer includes a holder having a proximal end for covering the housing and a distal end for covering the probe. The distal end also houses an enclosed portion having rattle balls which allow the thermometer holder to serve as an amusement device for the child.

摘要： A non-contact infrared (IR) thermometer for measuring temperature from the surface of an object includes an IR radiation sensor attached to a heating element and a thermal shield having an interior surface positioned within the sensor's field of view that has a high emissivity. An electronic circuit controlling the heating element maintains the temperatures of the sensor and shield substantially close to an anticipated surface temperature of the object. The IR radiation sensor is further thermally coupled to a reference temperature sensor. An optical system positioned in front of the shield focuses thermal radiation from the object on the surface of the sensor, while the shield prevents stray radiation from reaching the sensor. Signals from the IR and reference sensors are used to calculate the object's surface temperature.

摘要： A humidifier includes a housing with a substantially open top portion. Water can be added to the humidifier by pouring the water into a water reservoir through an open top. The water is pumped from the water reservoir to an upper portion of the humidifier where it is dispersed into the environment by a flow of air. The humidifier may include both an ultrasonic nebulizer and a heater to provide a warm mix of cool mist and hot vapor. Alternatively, a warm mist can be provided by dispersed water from an ultrasonic nebulizer in combination with warm air. The humidifier may also solely provide a cool mist from an ultrasonic element, or the water can be dispersed using a wicking filter.

摘要： A non-invasive arterial blood pressure monitor uses an inflatable cuff that incorporates the first bladder that is filled with non-compressible liquid or gel. The bladder can be pressurized by an action of a pressurizing device superimposed onto its outer surface. In a preferred embodiment, a pressurizing device is an air-filled second bladder being connected to an air pump and bleed valve. The first bladder is positioned between the patient's body and the second bladder. During operation, the second bladder compresses the first bladder, which, in turn, compresses the patient's artery against the supporting bone. The mechanical coupling between the blood-filled artery of a patient and the liquid-filled bladder of a dual-bladder cuff is improved for detecting pressure oscillations in a broad frequency range. The pressure sensor that is coupled to the first bladder also functions as a hydrophone for picking-up the mechanical oscillations from any part of the occluded limb or digit. This allows for improved computation of the arterial pressure.
