A manufacture method of briquette for use as metal stock is provided which increases the efficiency of drying porous masses so as to shorten a drying time, and which provides a simplified constitution for reducing an installation area of a system and for reducing the running cost and initial cost of the system. The porous masses are formed by compression molding a recyclable material containing metallic powder. The compression molded porous masses are fed into a tubular member, into which hot air is blown for drying the porous masses.

A vacuum carbonitriding method includes: performing a vacuum carburizing process on an object to be treated (a workpiece) in a heat treating furnace under reduced pressures by supplying a carburizing gas into the furnace that has been heated to a predetermined carburizing temperature; stopping supply of the carburizing gas while keeping the carburizing temperature so as to diffuse carbon in the workpiece under reduced pressures; and performing a nitriding process on the workpiece by supplying a nitriding gas into the furnace under reduced pressures after lowering the furnace temperature. Required heat treatment qualities such as surface hardness, effective case depth, toughness and the like can be achieved in a short time with reproducibility even in a case of workpiece made of low-grade steel or case-hardened steel.

A method of gas carburizing is carried out at a carburizing temperature which is not higher than a peritectic point temperature at which δ iron and liquid phase are transformed into γ iron and not less than a eutectic point temperature at which liquid phase is transformed into γ iron and cementite. The method comprises the step of predetermining the limiting carburizing conditions at which the surface layer of a sample of a steel treatment object present in a carburizing atmosphere is austenitized without melting and the step of gas carburizing the treatment object under carburizing conditions which are set so as not to contradict the limiting carburizing conditions, at a carburizing temperature which is not higher than the peritectic point temperature and not less than the eutectic point temperature. The limiting carburizing conditions comprise an upper limit value of a partial pressure of carburizing gas at which the surface layer of the sample is austenitized without melting.
