A movable wall panel system induces a plurality of movable wall panels. A first electrical connector of one panel is automatically coupled to a second electrical connector of an adjacent panel as the panels are moved from a folded storage position to an extended use position to electrically couple the adjacent panels together automatically. At least one of the plurality of panels has an electrical receptacle coupled to its associated first and second electrical connectors to provide an electrical power outlet.

The wall panel (12) has channel-shaped opposed frame members (26) and at least one spring-biassed seal assembly (31, 32) adapted to move outwardly or inwardly of an edge of the panel. A seal-actuating mechanism (30') includes a rotatable shaft (33) mounted between the opposed frame members with an operator member (36) including pivot lever latch means mounted on each end. At least one tension member (40) has one end coupled to the pivot lever means, and the other end coupled to the edge seal assembly so that when the shaft (33) is rotated the seal assembly is shifted respectively from an extended position to its retracted position. Rotation of the shaft (33) to retract the seal assembly (31, 32) causes the pivot-lever latch means to move into an over-centre, latching condition. The operator members, latch means and tension members are all accommodated in the frame channels and may therefore be installed, replaced or removed without removing the panel facing (24).

An automatic track switching system is provided for a movable wall system having multiple wall panels (22) supported by and movable along multiple paths defined by multiple track sections (26-32) to predetermine configurations. The track switching system is operable by manually pushing each of the wall panels (22) along the track sections. Multiple switch assemblies (50, 70, 80) automatically direct each wall panel to an appropriate position based upon diverter means (115 et al.) associated with the trolley assemblies (85 et al.) for each wall panel. The switch assemblies include an array of vertically oriented plates (e.g., 255, 256, 257) that are each offset at different lateral distances from the track path. The diverter means for each trolley assembly includes a vertical pin (e.g., 123) that is situated at a predetermined lateral distance to engage a selected one of the switching plates. In one embodiment, each panel includes a lead trolley and a trailling trolley, with the vertical pin for each associated diverter means having different heights. The switching plates for different switch assemblies have heights calibrated to be engaged by only one of lead or trailing trolley.

Disclosed is a movable wall panel system supported at its upper end by a dolly (19) in an overhead track (20) and includes a pendent bolt (24) having a nut (25) screwed thereon and supports a spring (26) which engages top channel (27) thereby providing a distally variable load bearing bias. The lower end of the opposing sides (36) of the wall panel are separated by a U channel (29) having a support bolt (30) and adjusting nut (37) passing therethrough which is welded at its lower end to track guide plate (31). Adjusting nut (37) contains set screw (38) which may be screwed against either of milled sides (50, 51) of support bolt (30) to prevent rotation of nut (37) after its final vertical position has been set. Guide plate (31) holds axle (32) on which support wheels (33) are mounted for rolling on the floor (34). Apertures (41, 42) are provided to permit accessibility to the adjusting nut (37) and are covered by resilient retractable seals (43, 44).

A track and trolley system that allows wall panels to be moved with a minimum amount of friction is disclosed. The system includes a track (5) having a first rail (43), a second rail (44) which is higher than the first rail, and a trolley having two drive wheels (13, 23) that engage the rails via annular track engaging surfaces of different diameters. Each drive wheel (13, 23) is independently rotatable in opposite directions. The system further includes a wall panel mount assembly having a housing (26) integral with a movable wall panel (1) and slide pads (79, Fig. 4) at track intersections to reduce the vertical elevational drop of a trolley when it moves across a track intersection.
