摘要: A vehicle having a clutch which connects an engine with a driveline which includes a multi-ratio gearbox, the clutch having an actuator which can be operated by a vehicle driver to engage and disengage the clutch, the actuator also having a control system arranged to move the clutch between fully engaged and fully released positions through a range of positions allowing variable levels of clutch slip in order to automatically reduce torsional vibrations in the driveline. The control system is configured to recognize a plurality of predetermined Vehicle Operation Modes defined by the combination of a Clutch Slip Status criterion as hereinbefore defined with one or more of the hereinbefore defined operating criteria of Manual Clutch Position Control Input Interface Status, Release Bearing Position Status and Slip Velocity Demand Status and, dependent on the recognized Vehicle Operation Mode, the control system applies a different clutch control strategy to achieve the required level of clutch slip to damp vibration in the driveline and provide transition between the different Vehicle Operation Modes without exciting an uncomfortable level of vibration in the driveline.

摘要: A vehicle driveline coupling for coupling a drive component to a splined drive shaft, the coupling has a primary hub connected for co-rotation with the driveline component and having a first spline connection for engaging splines on the drive shaft and a secondary hub mounted co-axially with the primary hub and having a second spline connection for engaging the splines on the drive shaft. Spring means are provided for generating a rotational torque bias between the two hubs about their co-axial axis so that the two spline connections are not aligned and cannot initially both be mounted on the drive shaft splines, and setting means acting between the hubs to rotate the hubs relative to each other against the torque bias to increase the bias and align the spline connections to allow both hubs to be mounted on the drive shaft splines. Release of the setting means after the hubs are both mounted on the drive shaft splines allowing the spring means to bias the hubs rotationally away from each other so that the first spline connection is in drive transmitting contact with the drive shaft splines and this contact is maintained, thus eliminating spline rattle, unless an overrunning torque in excess of the bias torque is transmitted through the drive shaft.

摘要: An electro-mechanical actuator having an electric motor (12), a member (15) rotatable by the electric motor, a first pin and slot connection (17, 18) connecting the rotatable member with a pivoting rocker lever (19) and a pivoting connection (21,22) connecting the rocker lever (19) or rotatable member (15) with a linearly moveable operating member (23) so that rotation of the rotatable member (15) by the motor (12) gives linear movement (X) of the operating member between two end travel positions. Bias means (24, 25) are operative on the rocker lever (19) to assist the motor (12) to move the operating member (23) to one of its end travel positions and to hold the operating member in its other end travel position. The actuator is particularly suitable for operating a vehicle driveline clutch with the operating member (23) moveable between an extended end travel position in which the clutch is disengaged and its other retracted end travel position in which the clutch is engaged. In this application the line of action (F) of the bias means (24, 25) acting on the rocker arm (19) can move over-centre relative to the axis of pivoting (G) of the rocker arm when the clutch is in closed position so that the biasing means also holds the clutch in its closed position.

摘要: A clutch actuator (10) has a prime mover (23, 25) to move a clutch actuating member (11) between clutch fully released and clutch fully engaged positions. A passive magnetic arrangement is provided comprising a magnetised member (30) and a magnetic member (26) which move relative to each other as the actuating member (11) moves between its clutch fully released and engaged positions to provide an additional force to assist the prime mover (10). An adjusting mechanism (31) is also provided which maintains the relative positions of the magnetised (30) and magnetic (26) members when the clutch actuating member is in either its fully engaged or fully released positions so that the additional assisting force remains substantially constant as the clutch wears.

An annular output member (15) is located adjacent the flywheel with its radially outer portion within the clutch volume and interleaved annular clutch plates (16, 17) are located within the clutch volume between the output member and housing and are alternately splined for rotation with the housing or output member, spring means (18) act between the flywheel and the output member via a thrust bearing (19) to bias the output member away from the flywheel to bring the clutch plates into engagement to engage drive through the clutch assembly and clutch release means (20) act on the output member (15) to move the output member towards the flywheel (11) against the spring means (18) to release the clutch when required.
