A friction brake includes a friction disk assembly having high dynamic stability against undesired vibration during a braking event. The friction disk assembly (39,44) comprises an annular structural carrier of carbon and/or ceramic or other suitable structual material, preferably a fiber reinforced composite material, including a plurality of recessed regions and torque drive notches spaced around its circumferential direction, and a friction lining (42,52) of carbon and/or ceramic or other suitable structural material, preferably a fiber reinforced composite material, mounted on the carrier, the friction lining having a flat wear (rubbing) face and an obverse face including raised areas corresponding to and matingly engaging the recessed regions of the carrier to prevent rotation of the lining relative to the carrier. The lining may be formed of of virgin or recycled carbon, ceramic or other suitable friction material. The lining may be retained to the carrier by mechanical fasteners such as rivets or clips. The assembly may be refurbished by simple replacement of the worn lining without need of machining. The carrier and the lining are preferably formed as unitary annular members.

A process for monoalkylating diphenylamine using a clay catalyst is disclosed which results in a reaction product having substantial amounts of desirable monoalkylated diphenylamine and minimal amounts of less desirable disubstituted diphenylamine and unsubstituted diphenylamine. The disclosed process uses clay catalysts which favor monoalkylation over dialkylation and specific conditions such as reaction temperature, mole ratios of alkylating olefin to diphenylamine, reaction times, and catalyst amounts. Preferred olefins are linear alpha olefins having from 6 or 8 to 18 carbon atoms. When more than 1 wt. % residual unreacted diphenylamine is present it may be converted to alkylated diphenylamine by reacting with styrene, alpha-methylstyrene or isobutylene.

An electrically actuated aircraft brake (11) and method for its servicing is characterized by the use actuator modules (36) which can be easily and quickly replaced as a unit. Quick and easy replacement of the actuator modules (36) can be effected without disassembly of the overall brake and wheel assembly (10). Accordingly, brake manufacturing, repair costs, overhaul, parts stocking and maintenance costs and requirements are minimized and/or greatly simplified compared to integrated brake designs used in the prior art. Also, a malfunctioning actuator module (36) on an aircraft can be replaced and preferably quickly enough to allow the aircraft to remain in scheduled service and/or with a minimum of downtime.

The invention is in the field of heat shields for aircraft wheel and brake assemblies. More particularly, the invention relates to such heat shields having removable sections. According to an aspect of the invention, a heat shield is provided for attachment to an aircraft wheel having a hub and a tube well concentric with the hub, a web interconnecting the hub and the tube well, and a plurality of torque bars fixed to the wheel generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel and spaced from the tube well. The heat shield comprises a plurality of heat shield sections to be disposed between adjacent torque bars and spaced from the tube well, and a plurality of elongate heat shield carriers to be fixed to the wheel generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel and spaced from the tube well with the heat shield carriers superposing the torque bars and engaging the plurality of heat shield sections. The plurality of heat shield sections and the plurality of elongate heat shield carriers define a generally cylindrical wall concentric with the tube well and defining an annular space therebetween.
