    摘要: Weatherstripping is inserted in an extrusion on-line with an extruder (18) which provides the extrusion (14) as it moves towards a station (28). The extrusion at such station is pulled and cut into sections (10) from which frames of windows are fabricated by fabricators, thereby avoiding the need for insertion of the weatherstrip into the sections offline by the window fabricator. The insertion apparatus includes rollers (46,48) and an insertion wheel (44) which inserts the weatherstrip (21) into a slot on one side of the extrusion. Rotation of the rollers is coupled to the insertion wheel by a transmission so that the weatherstripping is driven at the same or greater lineal speed than the speed at which the extrusion moves towards the pulling and cutting station (28), thereby assuring that the weatherstrip (24) reaches the cutter in the cutting station simultaneously with or ahead of the extrusion (14) at the cutter and is not pulled back, which would be the case if the insertion wheel (44) was not rotationally coupled to the rollers (46,48) and moved at a slower speed than the extrusion due (14) to friction which retards the rotation of the wheel. The sections are filled with weatherstripping along their entire length to facilitate the use thereof by the fabricator in providing components of the frames of the windows being fabricated.

    摘要: Block seals of pile weatherstripping (6), which may be inserted in doorjambs or window sash and are sometimes called dust plugs (15), are provided by hinged segments (16-21) of a continuous length of pile weatherstripping folded against each other. The pile may have an infiltration barrier providing a fin (4) which extends along a continuous serpentine path having loops (8) bridging the hinges (3). The hinged sections are connected by an adhesive-backed sheet (5). The block seals are adapted to be manufactured by a continuous process where the backing or base strip (7) of a continuous length of pile weatherstripping (1) is slit or notched from opposite spaced edges, leaving sufficient material in the backing to provide the hinges (3). The continuous serpentine barrier fin (4) allows the dust plug (15) to be installed oriented either with the ends or sides of the pile facing the moving member of the door or window to be sealed, while maintaining the fin infiltration barrier.

The cushioning member (20) includes a pair of belt-shaped base members (21) and pile yarns (22) bridging between the base members (21).     摘要: Pile weatherstripping, which is clad with a wrapping of a film (14, 25, 104, 216) of flexible material, has one or more rows (19, 27, 100, 102, 212, 214) of pile (10, 24, 105, 233) on a backing (12, 28, 106, 218) in side-by-side relationship. The wrapping film material conforms to the outside surface of the row (19, 27, 100, 102, 214) of pile so as to define a bulb or bulbs which are completely filled with pile. Single row (19, 27) pile weatherstripping is made by wrapping the pile (10, 24) with the film material (14, 25) after first ultrasonically welding the film material along one edge thereof to the backing (12, 28) under the pile. Then, the film material (14, 25) may be bent around the pile as it moves through a guide (88). The film material (14, 25) is then attached along the opposite edge to the backing thereof so as to completely enclose and clad the row (19, 27) of weatherstripping. The film material may be wrapped around one row (214) of two adjacent rows (212, 214) of pile (233) and attached to the backing (218), leaving the other row (212) unclad. The film material (104) may be wrapped separately around adjacent rows and attached to the backing (106) to provide two clad rows (100, 102) of weatherstripping. By selection of the porosity of the film material (14, 25, 104, 216) and the density of the pile (10, 24, 105, 233), weatherstripping having desired compressibility and air and water infiltration control properties may be produced.
