An underwater connection assembly comprises an underwater device and an optical cable segment. The optical cable segment is configured to be coupled to a first sea earth by means of a first sea earthing electrode and the underwater device is configured to be coupled to a second sea earth by means of a second sea earthing electrode. In use, the first sea earthing electrode and the second sea earthing electrode are disposed at separated locations from each other.

A system comprising a power supply, a controller and a subsea node that is identifiable by an identifier. The controller is configured to transmit a command signal to switch power at the subsea node using the identifier corresponding to the subsea node. This allows power to an individual subsea node to be switched on or off without affecting power to other subsea nodes. This is particularly useful where the system comprises a plurality of subsea nodes, each node of the plurality of subsea nodes being identifiable by a unique identifier.
