The method comprises the following steps, providing an activation signal over the signal line (20) before the transmission of useful information (26) over the signal line (20), and detecting said activation signal (27) at the remote unit (10) and switching the remote unit (10) to transmit mode. The invention also relates to a controlling unit and a remote unit for performing said method.
