Abstract: The invention relates to a metal halogen lamp comprising an elongated arc tube (3) enclosed in a transparent casing (5), wherein the arc tube (3) is made up of a hollow glass body (7) comprising two end portions( 9) and a middle portion (11), an electrode (13) is arranged on the respective end portion (9), which electrodes (13), each having an electrode end (15), upon connection to a power source and during operation of the metal halogen lamp (1), generate an arc (23) between them; and the glass body (7) encloses halogens (h) and metal atoms (m) and has a wall thickness which is thicker on the end portions (9) than on the middle portion (11). The thicker end portions (9) each have a length (L1) of at least one-third of the total length (L) of the arc tube (3).
