    摘要: Provided is a side airbag device which is capable of further stabilizing a deployment behavior of a cushion having a plurality of chambers. A side airbag 100 includes: an inflator 110; a rear chamber 114 which inflates and deploys at a side part 108 of a seat back 106 and which includes a middle restraining part 122 that protrudes toward the front of a vehicle from the seat back 106 to restrain a part of an occupant 118 and a main part 120 positioned at the rear side of the vehicle than the middle restraining part 122; a sectioning wall 124 which constitutes a front edge and an upper edge of the rear chamber 114 and which has a prescribed width in a vehicle width direction; a front chamber 116 which inflates and deploys into areas toward the front of the vehicle and the upper part of the vehicle from the sectioning wall 124; an upper opening 126 which is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a rear part of the upper edge of the rear chamber 114; and a lower opening 128 which is formed on the sectioning wall 124 in a lower part of the front edge of the rear chamber 114.

A side airbag 2 has an inflator storing region Q formed on a rear side in a vehicle front-back direction to store an inflator, and the method includes the step of folding an upper region R of the side airbag above a folding line F on a lower region S thereof under the folding line F along the folding line F, the folding line F being set across the side airbag from a vehicle rear side to a vehicle front side, and setting on the side airbag a folding region T for folding the side airbag into a cone shape having a tapered upper part and a widened lower part, and the step of folding the folding region toward the inflator storing region with respect to at least one folding center U set on the folding line that defines an upper edge of the folding region as a reference for staring folding and forming a folded part.

    摘要: [PROBLEMS] A conventional side air bag is aimed to protect the head and breast of an occupant, and this increases the size of an upper chamber, rendering inflation and expansion speed of the side air bag device disadvantageous. Furthermore, conventional side air bags are not suitable for strong side crash because the inner pressure of the upper chamber must be set below a certain level. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] An air bag (1) is partitioned by a partition section (1b) into an upper chamber (1c) and a lower chamber (1d). When inflated and expanded, the upper chamber (1c) has a size where the head section (M1) of an occupant (M) having a physique equivalent to an adult man is not reached by the air bag. When an occupant (W) with a physique equivalent to an adult woman is the standard, the upper chamber (1c) is constructed so that it can be inflated and expanded to a side of her shoulder section (W2) in a vehicle collision. Further, the lower chamber (1d) is constructed so that it can be inflated and expanded to a side of the belly section of the occupant (M, W). The side air bag also has a regulation means for setting the inner pressure of the upper chamber (1c) at a higher level than the inner pressure of the lower chamber (1d).
