    摘要: In accordance with a preferred embodiment, a vehicle crash discrimination system (10) comprises a plurality of coil sensors (18) permanently mounted to a vehicle pillar (16), and a magnet (20) either mounted to a door (14) edge surface juxtaposed to the coils, or to the pillar (16) if a suitable ferromagnetic flux collector (28) is mounted on the door edge. The shape, size and spacing of the coils (19) is predetermined to provide output signals in the coils responsive to the change in the magnetic field caused by the movement of the door surface. The change in magnetic field is analyzed to indicate a vehicle crash.

In one embodiment, a closure time is estimated from estimates or measurements of occupant velocity or acceleration, and the estimated closure time is compared with a threshold. If the estimated closure time is less than the threshold, activation of the safety restraint system is either inhibited or advanced relative to that otherwise provided by the rollover detection process alone. Otherwise, the activation may be delayed to provide additional time for the rollover detection.
