摘要: In accordance with a preferred embodiment, a vehicle crash discrimination system (10) comprises a plurality of coil sensors (18) permanently mounted to a vehicle pillar (16), and a magnet (20) either mounted to a door (14) edge surface juxtaposed to the coils, or to the pillar (16) if a suitable ferromagnetic flux collector (28) is mounted on the door edge. The shape, size and spacing of the coils (19) is predetermined to provide output signals in the coils responsive to the change in the magnetic field caused by the movement of the door surface. The change in magnetic field is analyzed to indicate a vehicle crash.

摘要: A roll angular velocity sensor (20) and an occupant sensor (42, 56.1, 56.2, 60.1, 60.2) are operatively coupled to a processor (26), which provides for detecting a rollover condition responsive to a measure of roll angular velocity and controlling a safety restraint system (30, 30.1, 30.2, 32.1, 32.2, 36.1, 36.2, 38.1, 38.2, 39.1, 39.2, 40.1, 40.2) responsive thereto, wherein a detection criteria associated with the rollover detection process is responsive to a signal from the occupant sensor. In one embodiment, a closure time is estimated from estimates or measurements of occupant velocity or acceleration, and the estimated closure time is compared with a threshold. If the estimated closure time is less than the threshold, activation of the safety restraint system is either inhibited or advanced relative to that otherwise provided by the rollover detection process alone. Otherwise, the activation may be delayed to provide additional time for the rollover detection.

摘要: A seat weight sensor (10) incorporates a fluid filled bladder (12) placed in series with the load path in the seat (3), whereby a load applied to and distributed across the bladder (12) increases the pressure of the fluid therein. The pressure of the fluid is measured by a pressure sensor (20) and is substantially proportional to the magnitude of the applied load, and substantially inversely proportional to the supported area of the bladder (12). The output signal is substantially linear with respect to weight. Preferably, the amount of fluid in the bladder should be less than the capacity of the bladder when the bladder is unloaded. The seat weight sensor (10) is incorporated into an accupant restraint system (7) for controlling the safety restraint system responsive to the weight of the occupant (5).

摘要: A hydrostatic weight sensor element (10) with a pressure sensor (24) for detecting weight applied to a fluid filled load supporting bladder (12) has a volume restorer (32) for re-expanding the load supporting bladder (12) when the load is removed, and a check valve (34) that readmits a sensing fluid, such as air, into the bladder (12) when the internal pressure drops lower than the ambient air pressure. The volume restorer (32) is shaped so that the amount of fluid admitted (28) is less than the volume capacity of the sensor element. A pressure relief valve (42) is provided for overload conditions.
