    摘要: The present invention relates to a boiling process in a downflow heat exchanger and the heat exchanger itself with liquid distribution enhancing features which improve performance and allow safe and efficient operation. Performance enhancing features include a partially flooded hardway distribution region with a liquid volume fraction greater than about 0.25 and preferably greater than 0.5, adjusting the heat transfer surface area to maintain a liquid film Reynolds number above 20 and, preferably, above 50 yet less than 1000, preferably less than 300, for at least 75% of the reboiler surface, and, optionally, intermediate feeding of liquid at various intervals along the length of the heat exchanger to obtain more uniform values of liquid film Reynolds numbers and intermediate redistribution.

    摘要: A nitrogen-enriched vapour product (120) is produced from a supply (116) of a nitrogen-rich liquid using a purifying device (106) and a distillation column (140) having a distillation zone. At least a portion of the nitrogen-rich liquid is fed to the distillation zone at a first location; a stream of a gas containing nitrogen and at least one contaminant (140) is fed to the purifying device (106), wherein the gas is cooled by a cryogenic liquid (130) whereby at least a portion of the at least one contaminant condenses, solidifies, or dissolves; at least a portion of, or derived from, the cool gas from the purifying device (106) is fed to the distillation zone at a second location below the first location; a stream of the nitrogen-enriched vapour product (120) is withdrawn from the distillation zone; and a stream of a nitrogen-depleted liquid (130) is withdrawn from the distillation zone. The nitrogen-depleted liquid (130) can provide the cryogenic liquid for the purifying device (106).

    摘要: The performance of structured packing comprising a plurality of corrugated plates (20) disposed in vertically parallel relation, each plate (20) having at least one aperture (28) and a plurality of regularly spaced and substantially parallel corrugations disposed in crisscrossing relation to the corrugations of an adjacent plate (20) is optimized by having a surface area density in the range of 350 to 800 m 2 /m 3 , preferably 500 to 675 m 2 /m 3 ; aperture equivalent diameters of less than 4 millimetres but greater than 2 millimetres; a corrugation angle (α) relative to horizontal in the range of 35° to 65°, preferably 40° to 60°; and an included angle (β) defined by two sides of the corrugation in the range of 80° to 110°, preferably 90° to 100°. The structured packing is used in exchange columns for exchanging heat and/or mass between a first phase and a second phase in processes such as cryogenic air separation.
