    摘要: A fabric softening composition containing as essential constituent a biodegradable quaternary ammonium compound, characterised in that the composition comprises at least one or more compounds of the formula:

    wherein X is an anion, A is an (m+n) valent radical remaining after the removal of (m+n) hydroxy groups from an aliphatic polyol having p hydroxy groups and an atomic ratio of carbon to oxygen in the range of 1,0 to 3,0 and up to 2 groups per hydroxy group selected from ethylene oxide and propylene oxide,
    m is 0 or an integer from 1 to p-n, n is an integer from 1 to p-m, and
    p is an integer of at least 2,
    B is an alkylene or alkylidene group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
    R¹, R², R³ and R⁴ are, independently from each other, straight or branched chain C₁-C₄₈ alkyl or alkenyl groups, optionally with substitution by one or more functional groups and/or interruption by at most 10 ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide groups, or by at most two functional groups selected from

    or R² and R³ may form a ring system containing 5 or 6 atoms in the ring,
    with the proviso that the average compound either has at least one R group having 22-48 carbon atoms, or at least two R groups having 16-20 carbon atoms, or at least three R groups having 10-14 carbon atoms.

    摘要: Glycosiduronic acids, such as alkyl glycosiduronic acids or alkenyl glycosiduronic acids, which may be used in the preparation of surfactant compositions, such as detergents and cleansers, are prepared by reacting an oxidised mono-, oligo-, or polysaccharide with up to 10 monomer units with one or more fatty alcohols having 8-22 carbon atoms in the presence of a catalyst, preferably in bulk, and after acetalisation removing the excess alcohol.     X⁻ represents a halogen atom, notably a chlorine atom or a bromine atom, R₁ and R₂ may be the same or different and have the meaning of an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, a hydroxyethyl group, or be linked together to form an alkylene group having 4 to 6 carbon atoms which may be interrupted by an N atom or O atom, and R₃ and R₄ may be the same or different and have the meaning of an alkyl group or alkenyl group having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, or be linked together to form an alk(en)ylene group having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, characterised in that

    a) a secondary amine of the formula R₁-NH-R₂ is gradually added to and converted with one or more liquid compounds of the formula
    at a molar ratio in the range of 1,0 : 1,0 and 1,0 : 1,2, after which
    b) the formed solid amine hydrohalide is separated, followed by
    c) an aftertreatment, optionally in a solvent, at elevated temperature until the conversion is virtually complete, after which, if so desired, further treatments, such as recrystallisation from an organic solvent, are carried out to achieve a special product form.
