摘要: A stent (10) for transluminal implantation comprising a single-piece tubular member (12) having a fenestrated sidewall (18) exhibiting a pattern of uniformly spaced openings defined by intersecting strands (20, 22) where the strands (20, 22) are integrally joined together at their points of intersection whereby the tubular member (12) can be radially compressed from a larger diameter to a smaller diameter by the application of a uniform inwardly directed radial force and which self-expands to a larger diameter when the radial compressive force is removed. The compression and subsequent self-expansion occurs without an appreciable change in the stent's length. By forming the stent (10) from a thermoplastic material, it may later be resected by carving it up into small pieces preferably using an electrosurgical instrument.

摘要: Appareil de traitement de maladies de la prostate, telles que l'hypertrophie prostatique bénigne et le cancer de la prostate comprenant un cathéter urinaire (1) destiné à être inséré dans l'urètre prostatique; un ballonnet de dilatation (18) utilisé simultanément pour dilater l'urètre prostatique en vue de le soulager de toute constriction, généralement symptomatique de la plupart des maladies de la prostate, et pour comprimer les tissus prostatiques en vue de restreindre le flux sanguin vers lesdits tissus, ce qui réduit ainsi l'effet de dissipation thermique des tissus irrigués absorbant l'énergie thermique qui leur est appliquée et permet donc une plus grande uniformité de chauffe des tissus prostatiques malades cibles choisis ainsi qu'une réduction de la quantité de courant nécessaire pour fournir un niveau efficace d'énergie auxdits tissus; et une antenne à micro-ondes (22) destinée à appliquer l'énergie de micro-ondes aux tissus prostatiques malades cibles choisis de manière à y produire des effets hyperthermiques, causant ainsi une altération thérapeutique des cellules desdits tissus prostatiques. Un procédé de traitement des maladies de la prostate utilisant ledit appareil est également décrit.

摘要: A device for dilating at least an obstructed portion of a urethra includes a hollow core member (24) with opposed open ends permitting urination therethrough from the bladder, a confining covering (33) disposed on the hollow member (24) having a length of at least that of the obstructed portion and having hydrophilic means (32) integrally associated therewith. The hydrophilic means (32) is capable of absorbing water and gradually expanding for at least 30 minutes whereby the outer surface of the confining covering (33) expands radially and outwardly, after insertion into the urethra, until dilation of the obstructed portion occurs to a desired diameter and configuration. Methods for dilating an obstructed portion of the urethra and for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia are also provided.

摘要: An apparatus and method for interstitial treatment and diagnosis in organs utilizing a flexible cannula (12) having an interstitial locking means (16) thereon. The apparatus includes a shaft for insertion into a body passage adjacent to the organ to be treated and adapted to guide cannula into the organ. The shaft is also adapted to receive an endoscope (28) to visualize insertion of the cannula. The cannula locking means includes a locking member which extends from the distal end of the cannula in response to relative motion between parts of the cannula.

摘要: Elément attelle (10) destiné à une implantation transluminale et comprenant un élément tubulaire (12) en une seule pièce pourvu d'une paroi latérale fenêtrée (18) présentant une configuration d'ouvertures uniformément espacées délimitées par des brins qui s'entrecroisent (20, 22), les brins étant réunis de manière intégrée au niveau de leurs points d'intersection. L'élément tubulaire (12) est susceptible d'être radialement comprimé de façon à présenter un diamètre inférieur lorsqu'on y applique une force radiale uniforme dirigée vers l'intérieur, puis se dilate automatiquement pour présenter un diamètre supérieur lorsque la force de compression radiale est enlevée. La compression et la dilatation automatique subséquente ont lieu sans qu'il se produise de modification appréciable dans la longueur de l'attelle. Lorsque l'attelle (10) est fabriquée à partir d'un matériau thermoplastique, elle peut plus tard être reséquée en étant découpée en petits morceaux, de préférence à l'aide d'un instrument électrochirurgical.
