The invention relates to two-component coating systems comprising, as component (a), one or more polyisocyanates; as component (b), one or more oligomeric and/or polymeric compounds which can react with component (a); and, as component (c), one or more phosphonates selected from the group of phosphonic acid diesters and diphosphonic acid diesters, wherein (i) component (b) contains all oligomeric and/or polymeric compounds which can react with component (a) and which are contained in the two-component coating system; and (ii) component (b) contains not more than 15% by weight, based on the total weight of component (b) of oligomeric and/or polymeric compounds which carry amino groups that can react with isocyanate. A further object of the invention is a method for the production of the two-component coating systems and the use of said coating systems as a clear coating, particularly for multilayer automobile coatings.

[Means of Resolution] A paint composition which has as essential components hydroxyl group containing resin (A) which has a hydroxyl group value of from 80 to 220 mgKOH/g, a glass transition temperature of -50°C or above but below 0°C and which contains from 25 to 55 mass% of units of 4-hydroxybutyl (meth)acrylate origin, hydroxyl group containing resin (B) which has a hydroxyl group value of from 80 to 220 mgKOH/g and a glass transition temperature of from 0 to 50°C and crosslinking agent (C) comprising polyisocyanate compound, characterized in that the proportions of hydroxyl group containing resin (A) and hydroxyl group containing resin (B) included are, as a ratio of the solid fraction masses, from 95/5 to 50/50, and the proportion of isocyanate groups which are the functional groups of the crosslinking agent (C) included with respect to the hydroxyl groups in total of the hydroxyl group containing resin (A) and the hydroxyl group containing resin (B), as the NCO/OH mol ratio, is from 0.5 to 1.5.

Disclosed are branched polyols (A) having two or more hydroxyl groups per molecule prepared by providing a polyisocyanate (A1) containing per molecule two or more isocyanate groups and either two or more hard segments (a11) which as part of a thermoset three-dimensional network raise its glass transition temperature, or two or more soft segments which as part of a thermoset three-dimensional network lower its glass transition temperature; and reacting the polyisocyanate (A1) with a polyol (A2) in a molar ratio (A2):(A1) of ≧2 and an equivalent ratio of [X+OH]:NCO≧2; wherein polyol (A2) has the general formula I: X [—R(—OH)n]m, and the variables have the following definitions: n is a number from 1 to 5, m is 1 or 2, X is an isocyanate-reactive functional group, and R is a divalent to pentavalent organic radical, with the proviso that R comprises at least one hard segment (a11) if (A1) comprises soft segments.
