The present invention is related to the use of specific derivatives of diphosphines as flame retardants in aromatic and heteroaromatic epoxy resins and to a method for reducing the flammability of organic material comprising aromatic and/or heteroaromatic epoxy resins in which the specific derivates of diphosphines are incorporated. More-over, the invention is related to an aromatic and/or heteroaromatic epoxy resin composition containing aromatic and heteroaromatic epoxy resin as such or in processed form and incorporated in the aromatic and/or heteroaromatic epoxy resin at least one of the derivatives of diphosphines in an amount of from 1 to 35% by weight, based on the weight of the aromatic and/or heteroaromatic epoxy resin.

The present invention relates to a method for producing 6-chlorodibenzo [d,f] [1,3,2]dioxaphosphepin (I) in which 2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl is reacted with PCl 3 in the presence of a catalytic quantity of an acid salt of a nitrogenous base, the reaction taking place in the absence of external organic solvents.

The present invention is related to the use of specific cyclic and/or polymeric aryl-phosphines as flame retardants and to a method for reducing the flammability of organic material by incorporating into the material these specific cyclic and/or polymeric phosphines. Moreover, the invention is related to a polymeric composition containing a polymeric material and at least one of the specific cyclic and/or polymeric phosphines in an amount of from 1 to 15% by weight, based on the weight of the polymeric material. The invention also relates to a composition comprising at least one of the specific cyclic and/or polymeric phosphines and at least one polymerizable monomer.

The present invention relates to a method for synthesizing cyclohexyl-substituted phosphines. In addition, the invention relates to a method for synthesizing cyclohexyl-substituted phosphine oxides which can be used as intermediate products in the synthesis of cyclohexyl-substituted phosphines of Formula (I), in which R represents a group of Formula (II), or a linear or branched alkyl group with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, which carries the 1, 2, 3, or 4 groups of Formula (III) and which may carry, in addition, 1 to 4 substituents of Formula (IV); X and Y independently represent O or NR8.
