摘要: In a Computer Telephony Integration environment, to reduce the risk of inadvertent or fraudulent registration of the association of a user's computer terminal with the wrong telephone, i.e. one other than the telephone adjacent to the computer terminal or the user's mobile telephone, a host computer instructs the user via a screen display to call a particular extension of a CTI-enabled PABX. When a call to that extension is detected, the PABX treats the call as having been answered, and reports this to the host computer. The user is now instructed to dial a codeword, and when this is received at the PABX and reported to the host computer, the telephone is registered as associated with the computer terminal provided that the reported codeword matches the codeword provided to the user. A number of variants and refinements provide for greater security against fraudulent registration.

摘要: In a Computer Telephony Integration environment, a method of, and system for, registering the identity of a telephone terminal in association with the identity of a computer terminal, in which a host computer requests a user, via a screen display on the computer of his workstation, to declare the number of the telephone which he wishes to be registered in association with his computer. When the user answers a call made to that telephone from the CTI-enabled PBX by command of the host computer (the CTI server of the registration system) and dials or speaks a codeword, this is received at the PBX and reported to the host computer, and the telephone is registered as associated with the computer terminal provided that the reported codeword matches the codeword provided to the user. By calling the telephone presumed to be associated with the computer and verifying the association upon successful comparison of the codewords, the registration process is independent of the telephone identifying itself via CLI to the registration system and thus the user can be situated in a remote country, or connected to a PSTN which does not support the transmission of CLI.

摘要: In password protection access, a nominated telephone number is used as the user identity associated with the protected information. If the user needs to change his password, he makes a call from the nominated telephone to a change password service, which automatically retrieves the calling line identity from the signalling information of the incoming call, prompts for a new password, receives the new password from the user, and records the new password in place of the previous password. There is no involvement of system administration personnel, and no consequent delay while a manual reset of the user's password is effected.
