摘要: The present invention is directed to a shieldable blood collection set (10) as well as a needle assembly (12) for use therein. The needle assembly (12) includes a needle cannula (20) having a puncture tip (28) at a distal end (24) thereof; a hub (30) which supports the needle cannula (20); and a shield (50) axially movable between a non-shielding position, in which the puncture tip (28) of the needle cannula (20) is exposed from the shield (50), and a shielding position in which the shield (50) covers the puncture tip (28). A pair of extendable members (70,72) interconnects the hub (30) and the shield (50). The pair of extendable members (70,72) are moveable between a mating position forming a unitary structure; a lateral position forming a pair of wings extending from opposing sides of the needle assembly (12); and an extended position causing the shield (50) to move from the non-shielding position to the shielding position.

摘要: A thermometer for measuring body temperature in two different regions of a patient's body is provided. The thermometer includes a body and a probe fastened to the body. The probe has a tip portion disposed away from the body, and a temperature sensor is disposed on the tip of the probe. A supporting arm is pivotably attached to the body so that it can pivot between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the arm nests with the body so that the probe may be used to measure oral or rectal temperature. In the open position, the arm is positioned away from the body to provide a retaining surface for positioning the probe to measure axillary temperature.

摘要: A safety needle assembly (12) has a hub (30) and a needle (22) cannula that projects distally from the hub. A shield (14) is mounted on the needle cannula (22) and can move from a proximal position adjacent the hub and a distal position for shielding the tip of the needle cannula. A fin (36) projects from the hub (30) to facilitate digital manipulation of the needle assembly. A proximal arm (52) is hinged to the hub and a distal arm (48) is hinged to both the proximal arm and the shield (14). The proximal arm (52) is releasably engaged with the fin (36) when the shield (14) is in the proximal position. However, digital forces on the arms enables the shield to be propelled to the distal position.

摘要: A shieldable winged needle assembly includes a hub and a cannula projecting distally beyond the hub. A spring is telescoped over the cannula and engages with or into distal portions of the hub. A hub guide projects radially out from the hub. A first wing includes a center sleeve rotationally mounted on the hub and axially movable along the hub when a slot formed in the center sleeve aligns with the hub guide. A second wing has proximal and distal sleeves mounted at opposite ends of the center sleeve. The proximal and distal sleeves each are rotationally mounted relative to the hub and each include slots that enable sliding movement of the hub guide when the slots of the second wing align with the slot of the first wing. The spring propels the cannula and hub into a shielding position when the slots of the wings are rotated into alignment with one another.
