An uneven wear-resisting heavy duty pneumatic tire comprises main grooves (1) continuously extending in the tread of the tire along the circumference thereof, land portions (2) separated by the main grooves, and stepped zones (3) each provided in the land. Each stepped zone has a surface located radially inside of the tread by a step as viewed sectionally. Each of said stepped zones is separated from the adjacent land portions via a pair of circumferentially extending narrow grooves (4) or cuts. An uneven wearing-sacrificing portion is formed by the surface of the stepped zone. The uneven wear-sacrificed portion slide-contacts with the tread within the tread ground-contacting area for supporting the load exerted upon the tire. (Figure 1b).

A circumferential location at which the tread has its maximum outer diameter is deviated from the tire equator outwardly opposite to the side on which the tire is to be mounted to a vehicle, by a distance L equal to from 0.05 to 0.30 times the width W of the tread. A ratio of d₂/d₁ is equal to from 0.98 to 1.00 in which d₁ and d₂ are diameters of shoulders (2, 2ʹ) of the tread on the mounted tire outer side and mounted tire inner side, respectively. The susceptibility of the tires to uneven wear such as shoulder drop uneven wear, river wear and one side wear is improved.
