Um insbesondere bei LKW-Reifen das Steinefangen zu vermindern, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgeschlagen, daß die Flanken (5) der Rillen mit einem reibungsverminderndem Material belegt sind, sodaß der reibungsvermindernde Belag auf den Flanken gegenüber Steinen einen geringeren (4a) Reibungsbeiwert aufweist als die Laufflächenperipherie. Vorzugsweise wird an außermittigen Längsrillen nur die axial äußere Rillenflanke reibungsvermindernd belegt. Als reibungsverminderndes Material werden insbesondere Kautschukmischungen auf Basis von NR und BR vorgeschlagen mit ungewöhnlich niedrigem Rußgehalt.

A high-speed running pneumatic radial tire comprises a cylindrical crown portion, a pair of sidewall portions extending inward therefrom, a radial carcaas (7) extending from one of the sidewall portions through the crown portion to the other sidewall portion, and a belt (8) and a tread (9) successively superimposed on the crown portion outward in the radial direction of the tire. The tread has a plurality of rows of blocks (3) defined by a plurality of circumferential grooves (1a,1b) and by lateral grooves (2a,2b), and the belt (8) is comprised of at least two main cross-cord belt layers (8a) and an auxiliary belt layer (8b) arranged thereon. The auxiliary belt layer is formed by spirally winding a rubberized ribbon ply of heat-shrinkable cords (12) on the main belt layers (8a), in which an overlapped amount of the ribbon ply is made larger in a zone (B,C) of the tread substantially corresponding to a block row (3) than in a zone (A) of the tread substantially corresponding to a circumferential groove (1a,1b).

A tire tread (20) comprises four circumferentially extending grooves (1-4) dividing the tread into five continuous ribs (10-14) of elastomeric material. The edges of the grooves, which separate the different ribs from each other are constituted by zig-zag shaped repetitive design units (5-8;35-38). The repetitive design units on either side of the grooves (1-4) extend in circumferentially opposite directions and have each four legs, a first (5;35) and third (7;37) short leg alternating with a second (6;36) and fourth (8;38) long leg. The ribs include series of deep (40-42, 43-45) and shallow (50-52, 53-55) sipes as well as deep (48, 49) cuts.

In a pneumatic radial tire for trucks, buses, trailers, etc. formed with circumferential main grooves (10) extending so as to partition ribs (20) and with two narrow grooves (30) arranged near both tire tread ends, tread end ribs markedly wear down as compared with tread center rib, thus resulting in uneconomical irregular abrasion. To overcome this problem, the narrow groove (30) is formed inclined toward a tread center (CL) at an angle (10° or less) with respect to a tread normal (N), with a depth (30d) deeper than that (10d 2 ) of the outermost main groove (10 2 ). The tire thus improved can provide a uniform wear over the tire tread without reducing outer rib rigidity, thus improving rib-tear resistance, tire abrasion resistance, and therefore steering stability and tire life.

On the opposite groove walls of the said groove multiple projecting blocks (5) are provided at a space (ℓ2) between adjoining projecting blocks (5) in the circumferential direction corresponding to 10-50 % of the circumferential length (ℓ1) of the projecting block (5) and between the projecting blocks (5) a narrower groove (4) is formed circumferentially having the open groove width (W1) corresponding to 5-50% of the open groove width (W) of the above mentioned wider circumferential groove. An application is the manufacturing of a heavy duty pneumatic tire.
