The present invention relates to a rubber composition advantageously usable for making up the tread of a tire, which includes: (a) an elastomer matrix including from 60 to 95 pce of at least one diene elastomer and from 5 to 40 pce of a polar thermoplastic elastomer TPE including at least one elastomer unit and one thermoplastic unit selected from among the homopolymers and copolymers of an alkylacrylic acid ester, the alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and (b) a reinforcing filler including an inorganic reinforcing filler, (c) a coupling agent. The presence of the polar thermoplastic elastomer enables an improvement in the wet grip, dry grip performance compromise of the tread.

The invention relates to a rubber cross-linked or crosslinkable compound which contains a diene elastomer having more than 15 % by weight of cyclic vinyl units higher than 15 % and is used for producing a tire tread. Said tire tread and tire casing incorporating it are also disclosed. The inventive compound comprises a diene linear or branched elastomer made of at least one type of conjugated diene and a reinforcing filler and having more than 15 % by weight of cyclic vinyl groups and a mean molecular mass up to 30 000-350 000 g/mol. Said elastomer is produced by anionic polymerisation of one or several conjugated diene-containing monomers, including a reaction of one or several monomers in a hydrocarbon solvent with a catalytic system containing an organolithic initiator and a polar agent having a plurality of hetero-atoms. Said reaction is carried out either in step-wise manner at a molar ratio (molar agent/initiator) higher than 8 or continuously at a molar ratio (molar agent/initiator) equal to or higher than 3.

The invention is characterized in that said reinforcing filler comprises synthetic magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2 wafers, coated with silica. The invention also concerns the use of such a composition for making rubber articles, in particular tyres or rubber semi-finished products for said tyres, in particular running treads. The invention also concerns, per se, said synthetic magnesium hydroxide in the form of wafers coated with silica, as well as its use as reinforcing filler, in particular in a diene elastomer matrix.

The PVNA is in particular a copolymer of methyl methacrylate, trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, in the form of nanobeads with a diameter of between 10 and 100 nm. By virtue of a very low density, this polymeric filler allows a reduction in the weight of the compositions of the invention, without deterioration in the reinforcement, and with a substantial reduction in hysteresis.
