A water-repellency agent for cells, comprising an aqueous dispersion or organosol containing fine particles of a tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoro (alkyl vinyl ether) copolymer and/or a nonfibrillating tetrafluoroethylene polymer having a mean particle diameter of 0.05 - 1 νm. The agent can be prepared without the necessity for using a fluororesin powder as such, does not cause fibrillation even when mixed with electrode materials, can improve chemical resistance, thermal resistance and especially water repellency, and is excellent in workability. Cells produced by using this agent are excellent in cycle life and internal pressure characteristics.
