An elastomeric fluoroterpolymer which is suitable for use as a hose or in oil seal for automotive engine oils, has sufficient amine resistance while retaining heat, oil, and chemical resistance and other properties nearly comparable to those of conventional fluororubbers, and is capable of polyol vulcanization. It comprises 10 to 85 mol% ethylene units, 14.9 to 50 mol% hexafluoropropylene units, and 0.1 to 45 mol% vinylidene fluoride units.

A novel fluorocopolymer is produced by conducting free-radical copolymerization of 60-80 mole % of ethylene with 40-20 mole % of hexafluoropropylene in the presence of 0.1-15 mole % of tetrafluoroethylene as a comonomer under the polymerization pressure of 10-40 kgf/cm2. A fluoroelastomer is produced by vulcanizing the above copolymer. The copolymerization can be conducted under mild conditions and the fluoroelastomer is excellent in amine resistance.
