摘要:
A method and apparatus for controlling an electric discharge machine wherein a motor (105) for establishing relative movement between an energized electrode (EP) and a workpiece is driven in accordance with command data (101). The method includes the steps of converting commanded speed information into a speed command value (VA) to control the speed of the motor (105), counting, by means of a counter (107), pulses generated by a sensor (106) each time the motor (105) rotates by a predetermined amount, reading the value of the count in the counter (107) periodically, adding the read values cumulatively to determine the present position of the electrode (EP), and sending a command to the counter (107) each time its counted value is read, to cancel the counted value.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for controlling backward movement in an electric discharge machine wherein a workpiece (WK) is subjected to electric discharge machining by relatively moving an electrode (EP) and the workpiece (WK) across which a voltage is applied. The method comprises the state detection step of detecting a state of the electric discharge machining in response to a retraction command, the selection step of selecting a class corresponding to the electric discharge machining state from among a plurality of stored classes of retraction control information items indicating retraction control conditions different from one another, and the control step of relatively moving and controlling the electrode (EP) and the workpiece (WK) in the backward direction in accordance with the selected class of retraction control information items.

@ A system for reversing the direction of an electric discharge machine of the type in which an electrode is moved relative to a workpiece and the workpiece is machined by an electric discharge developed across the electrode and the workpiece. When the electrode contacts the workpiece to produce a short-circuit signal, a controller responds by generating a command signal the magnitude whereof is greater than a stored error between a commanded value and a number of feedback pulses produced by rotation of a motor which drives the electrode. Owing to the magnitude of the generated command signal, the stored error is converted into a value capable of reversing the direction of the electrode without delay.

A method of controlling an electric discharge machine wherein a motor (105) for moving an energized electrode (EP) relative to a workpiece is driven in accordance with command data. The method includes the steps of storing in memory retraction control information contained in the command data, moving the electrode (EP) in the advancing direction relative to the workpiece by controlling the speed of the motor (105) in accordance with machining feed speed information contained in the entered command data, monitoring the current position of the electrode (EP) by counting, via counting means (107), pulses generated by a sensor (106) whenever the motor (105) rotates by a predetermined amount, moving the electrode (EP) in the retracting direction relative to the workpiece by reading in retraction speed from the retraction control information stored in the memory and controlling the speed of the motor (105) on the basis of the retraction speed, when a signal indicative of a short circuit is generated, and moving the electrode (EP) in the advancing direction relative to the workpiece by reading in a re-advancing speed from the retraction control information stored in the memory, when a signal indicative of an end to the short circuit is generated.
