Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a support for a lithographic printing plate, which method includes: a casting step in which an aluminum alloy melt is fed between a pair of cooling rollers by a melt feed nozzle and is rolled as it is being solidified by the pair of cooling rollers, forming an aluminum alloy plate, and a graining treatment step in which a surface of the aluminum alloy plate is subjected to graining treatment which includes at least alkali etching treatment and subsequent electrochemical graining treatment, thereby giving a support for a lithographic printing plate; wherein the surface of the aluminum alloy plate on the side which is subjected to the graining treatment undergoes an amount of aluminum dissolution X per square meter (g/m 2 ) during the alkali etching treatment and has a total amount of electricity Y per square decimeter (C/dm 2 ) applied thereto during an anode reaction in the electrochemical graining treatment such as to satisfy formula (1) below: 1,000 > Y ≥ 10x (1). By using this method, a support for a lithographic printing plate which is free of surface mottling is provided.

A roll for metal rolling has a roughened surface formed by an electrolytic treatment in an electrolytic solution while using the roll as an anode. When the roll is used to emboss an aluminum plate, it is possible to obtain an aluminum plate with an uneven structure having regulated positions of levels of peaks and a larger number of the peaks. A presensitized plate formed by use of the aluminum plate as a support has excellent printing performances particularly in the number of printed sheets and sensitivity.

The present invention provides a presensitized plate, comprising: an aluminum plate having an aluminum purity of not less than 99 wt%; and a photosensitive layer formed on the surface of said aluminum plate, wherein a fatigue fracture strength of the presensitized plate after a heat treatment at 300 °C for 7 minutes is not less than 75 % of the fatigue fracture strength thereof before the heat treatment. The presensitized plate is excellent in efficiency and stability of a roughening treatment, and is capable of preventing generation of fatigue fracture of the lithographic printing plate during printing even if a burning treatment has been made on lithographic printing plate.

A support for lithographic printing plate which is obtained by performing surface roughening treatments including electrolytic graining on an aluminum alloy plate containing Fe, Si, Cu, Ti, Mg and Ni in specified amounts, with the balance being Al and incidental impurities. The Ni content, Cu content and the average surface roughness of the roughened support surface satisfy a specified relationship. A lithographic printing plate prepared from the support have longer press life, higher resistance to staining and better surface quality.

According to the present invention, graphite electrodes (1, 2) and an auxiliary opposite electrode (3) are arranged to be installed at different electrolytic cells (9, 11); a current is supplied to the auxiliary opposite electrode (3) by controlling a phase angle of waveforms generated by a power source (4) for symmetrical alternating waveforms; and the electricity quantity of the auxiliary opposite electrode (3) is set in the range of 0.5% to 9% of the total electricity quantity. In addition, the resistance value of a support roller (7) of an aluminum web (6) is set to 0.01 MΩ or more; the frequency of the symmetrical alternating waveform current is set in the range of 50 Hz to 80 Hz; and the current density of the main opposite electrodes (1) and (2) is set in the range of 5 A/dm 2 to 50 A/dm 2 .

A lithographic printing plate support in which surface unevenness due to surface treatment has been suppressed and a presensitized plate of excellent sensitivity are produced from an aluminum alloy plate containing iron, silicon, titanium and boron by specifying the state in which TiB 2 particles are present in the surface layer and the width of the crystal grains, and by having specific indicators relating to the respective concentrations of iron and silicon in the surface layer following graining treatment fall within specific ranges. In a method of manufacturing the lithographic printing plate support, an aluminum alloy melt having specified alloying ingredients is subjected to a specified casting process to have the amount of the alloying ingredients in solid solution following cold rolling fall within specified ranges.
