摘要: Measurement of a non-linear parameter of an acoustic medium, or its distribution, for example for determining the internal temperature of a sample, is carried out noninvasively. A continuous wave ultrasonic probing beam is radiated through the sample, and a pumping wave which is an ultrasonic pulse wave is superposed on the probing beam. Phase changes of the probing beam caused by the pumping wave are detected. From these phase changes the non-linear parameter (B/A) or (B/A) e is obtained. In ohne case the pumping wave intersects the probing beam. In another case the pumping wave is directed along the probing beam, in the opposite direction.

摘要: A system for measuring non-linear parameter B/A of an ultrasonic medium (8) such as a living tissue (namely a value which indicates a rate of change of sound velocity with change of pressure) utilizing reflected ultrasonic waves. The system is operable to provide a measuring burst pulse (W m ) having a comparatively high frequency, and a pumping pulse (Wp) having a comparatively low frequency and a high sound pressure for obtaining a change of pressure in the medium, and to transmit those pulses in the same direction into the medium so they are superposed. The system is operable to detect phase of reflected waves from each region of the ultrasonic medium (8) and to effect differentiation. Thereby distribution of B/A along the transmission direction of the pulses in the medium can be obtained.
