The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and concerns a thermal radiation shield for vacuum and protective atmosphere furnaces, which is used for effecting a thermal radiation shielding that is a good at possible. The aim of the invention consists in providing thermal radiation protective shields with a reduced weight while having an identical or lower effective emissivity. To this end, the invention provides a thermal radiation protective shield for vacuum and protective atmosphere furnaces that is comprised at least of a porous ceramic and/or metallic material, which comprises, on a surface in the direction of the heat source, high thermal radiation-reflecting properties.

The invention relates to the field of ceramics and concerns an open-cell expanded ceramic which may be used in the form of a deep-bed filter, and a process for the production thereof. The object of the invention is to produce an open-cell expanded ceramic by a simple and economical process. The object is attained by an open-cell expanded ceramic in which the inner cavities, cracks and the porosity of the ceramic members are filled partially or completely by one or a plurality of metal and/or ceramic phases and/or glass phases. The open-cell expanded ceramic according to the invention is also produced in that during or after sintering the cavities, cracks and the porosity of the ceramic members are partially or completely filled with a melt or a suspension which melt below the melting temperature of the expanded ceramic, have a coefficient of expansion similar to the coefficient of expansion of the expanded ceramic, and a very good wetting capacity, and only react partially or not at all with constituents of the expanded ceramic.

The invention pertains to the field of material sciences and relates to a cellular material, which can be used, for example, for catalytic high-temperature processes. The problem of the present invention is to specify a cellular material that has both a high thermomechanical stability and a high specific surface area. The problem is solved by a cellular material composed of a cellular substrate, the enveloping surface of which is covered with a coating, which contains at least 95 mass % of calcium aluminum oxide compounds, at least 75 mass % of an aluminum-rich calcium aluminum oxide compound, at least 86 mass % of aluminum oxide, and at most 0.1 mass % of an Si compound. The problem is further solved by a method, wherein a suspension is applied to a thermal shock-resistant cellular substrate material or to a coating located thereon, wherein said suspension contains aluminum oxide and calcium oxide particles and leads to a coating, which contains at least 95 mass % of calcium aluminum oxide compounds and which is sintered.

The invention relates to the field of ceramics and to a ceramic network which can, for example, be applied as a deep-bed filter and a method for the production and utilization thereof. The aim of the invention is to provide a ceramic network in which the mechanical stability is improved and/or an application dependent structure can be specifically adjusted. To this end, a ceramic network is provided which is comprised of two or three dimensional ceramic webs that are connected to one another. The cavities in the ceramic webs have a cross-sectional area with a circular or approximately circular or extensively circular or a convex or multiple convex contour. In addition, a method is provided in which a fiber network is produced. The fiber network is comprised of polymer fibers and/or natural fibers and/or other fibers, whereby the fibers each have a cross-sectional area with a circular or approximately circular or extensively circular or a convex or multiple convex contour. According to the invention, a ceramic network is utilized while in contact with liquids and/or gases.
