A photographic printer has an exposure station, in which a frame of a photographic film (12) and color photographic paper (22) are set. A light source (10,45,54) is disposed in opposition to the color paper with reference to the photographic film (12) set in the exposure station, and constituted by LED elements (13-15,51-53). The LED elements are disposed in a matrix for emitting light of red, green and blue colors. The light source illuminates the frame from behind. The color paper is exposed by the light transmitted through the frame, to print the frame recorded on the photographic film to the color paper. In a preferred embodiment, a drive (16) signal is determined individually for driving respective the LED elements. The drive signal is applied to the respective LED elements.

5 n7 A photographic printing apparatus includes conveying rollers (38) for conveying a film (36) on which images are recorded, an image sensor (76) for measuring image density, a device (28) for determining printing conditions based on a measured image density and for storing the printing conditions, a display (78) for simulating an image to be printed onto photographic printing paper (54) based on results of measurement by the image sensor (76) and for displaying a simulated image, a reflecting mirror (70), and a control device (28). The reflecting mirror (70) is movable between a first position, at which the reflecting mirror (70) guides light, which is irradiated from a light source (12) and which passes through the film (36) at a printing position, to the image sensor (76), and a second position, at which the reflecting mirror (70) guides light, which passes through the film (36), to the photographic printing paper (54). A photographic printer has a zoom lens for printing an image on a photographic film whose frame size is equal to or smaller than 135-size, and a beam splitter fitted to the zoom lens. The beam splitter reflects a part of light passing through the image and directs it toward image sensors for measuring light so as to determine the color correction value and/or to inspect the image. The printer also has an interchangable fixed focus lens for a special print to which the zoom lens is not applicable. When using the fixed focus lens, a movable mirror is used in stead of the beam splitter for reflecting light toward the image sensors before printing.
