The present invention is directed to a MVA mutant and its use in the immunotherapy and vaccination against numerous diseases, in particular in the prevention and therapy of cancer and infectious diseases. The construction of MVA IL1βR deletion mutants allowed to analyze the significance of IL1βR synthesis upon in vitro and in vivo infection with MVA. The present data show that inactivation of the IL1βR gene is beneficial for the development of MVA vaccines.
