In order to suppress a beat phenomenon caused by pulsation of DC voltage in a frequency changer comprising a converter (4) and an inverter (8), the ripple factor of the DC voltage is detected (24, 26, 30). One of the input signals of the automatic pulse phase shifter is regulated by a bias signal (VB). The output from each of the automatic pulse phase shifters to each of the converters is switched when the measured speed (v) of the locomotive exceeds a predetermined reference speed signal (v R1 ).
