To achieve a high resolution, by modifying a delay time distribution of received waves with correlation computations between signals from adjacent elements and by removing influences of inhomogeneities in a living body with a simple computing circuit for correlation factors. A time delay unit 2 for delaying receiving signals from a probe 1, an adder unit 3 for adding outputs of the time delay unit 2 and forming ultrasonic beam, a phase difference computing unit 5 for computing phase differences between signals and a correlation factor computing unit 6 for computing correlation factors are provided, the outputs of the correlation factor computing unit 6 are compared with values of a correlation factor storage unit 8 by a correlation factor comparing unit 9, and when the former is larger than the latter, the outputs of the phase difference computing unit 5 and the outputs of the correlation factor computing unit 6 are respectively stored in a phase difference storage unit 7 and the correlation factor storage unit 8, and at the moment when all of the phase difference computations have been completed, the time delay unit 2 is controlled by making use of the value stored in the phase difference storage unit 7. The phase difference computations and the correlation factor computations are complex number computation, and only when the real part of a complex number which is an object for the phase difference computation is positive, a sign judging unit 10 issues an operation command to the correlation factor comparing unit 9.

An ultrasonographic apparatus includes: an ultrasonic probe 1 for transmitting/receiving an ultrasonic wave to/from a patient, means 2 for generating an ultrasonic transmission signal and transmitting it to the ultrasonic probe, means 3 for receiving a reflection echo signal received by the ultrasonic probe; means 4 for re-constructing a form image according to the reception signal processed by the reception processing means; means 5 for re-constructing an elasticity image according to the reception signal processed by the reception processing means; means 7 for displaying the form image and the elasticity image; means 8 for switching between the form image mode and elasticity image mode; and means 9 for performing control so as to selectively acquire the form image and the elasticity image in the measurement period of the elasticity image mode switched by the mode switching means. Thus, it is possible to perform measurement associated with acquisition of both the form image and the elasticity image of the biological tissue and improve the image quality of the form image such as a B mode image and the image quality of the elasticity image such as elasticity ratio and elasticity distortion.

An ultrasound diagnostic apparatus according to the present invention includes means for generating a tomographic image from a reflected echo signal received by the probe corresponding to an ultrasound wave transmitted by a probe put on an object to be examined, means for measuring a displacement of the object's tissue and calculating elasticity information on the basis of a reflected echo signal received from the object corresponding to an ultrasound wave transmitted while the pressure applied when the probe is put on the object is changed, and generating a color elasticity image from the elasticity information, means for generating a translucent image from the color elasticity image on the basis of image information of either the tomographic image or the color elasticity image, and overlapping the translucent image and the tomographic image, and means for displaying the combined image. With this structure, relation between the tissue and its elastic behavior can be properly diagnosed with the ultrasound diagnostic image.
