    摘要： A state determining apparatus for an exhaust gas purifier (6) is provided for accurately determining the state of the exhaust gas purifier including an adsorbent (7) for adsorbing hydrocarbons, including a deterioration of the adsorbent (7), in accordance with a temperature state in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine (1). The state determining apparatus for an exhaust gas purifier is arranged in an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine for determining the state of the exhaust gas purifier including the adsorbent (7) capable of adsorbing hydrocarbons and moisture in exhaust gas. The state determining apparatus comprises a humidity sensor (22) arranged near the adsorbent (7) in the exhaust system for detecting the humidity within a bypass exhaust pipe (14), and an ECU (25) for determining a temperature state of the exhaust system and determining the state of adsorbent (7) in accordance with the humidity within the bypass exhaust pipe (14) detected by the humidity sensor (22) and the temperature state in the exhaust system detected by the ECU (25).

    摘要： A catalyst state detector for detecting a state of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst which is capable of accurately detecting the state, including deterioration, of an HC adsorbent (7) contained in the exhaust gas purifying catalyst for adsorbing hydrocarbons in exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine (1), and can be manufactured at a low cost. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst (5) is arranged at an intermediate portion of an exhaust pipe (4), and the HC adsorbent (7) is capable of adsorbing hydrocarbons and moisture in exhaust gases. The catalyst state detector comprises a downstream humidity sensor (22) arranged at a location downstream of the HC adsorbent (7) in the exhaust pipe (4) for detecting a humidity of the exhaust gases, and an adsorbent state detecting unit (ECU) for detecting the state of the HC adsorbent (7) in accordance with the result of detection made by the downstream humidity sensor (22).
