摘要:
A downhole tool (38) comprises a housing (42) having a fluid passageway (84), a mandrel (44) having an interior volume (50), the mandrel (44) being slidably disposed within the housing (42), and the mandrel (44) having a plurality of axial positions relative to the housing (42). The mandrel (44) is slidably operated responsive to the fluid pressure within the interior volume (50) such that the mandrel (44) cycles through the plurality of positions. A retractor sleeve (64) is operably associated with the housing (42) and the mandrel (44) for engaging the mandrel (44) and slidably urging the mandrel (44) relative to the housing (42). The retractor sleeve (64) is slidably operated responsive to the fluid pressure within the interior volume (50). A seal assembly (72) slidably disposed around the housing (42), the seal assembly (72) including a floating piston, the housing (42) and the floating piston defining a chamber (84) therebetween. The chamber (84) is in communication with the fluid passageway (84) of the housing (42) such that the fluid pressure within the interior volume (50) enters the chamber (84) and slidably urges the seal assembly (72) to stretch the seal assembly (72).
摘要:
A formation testing system provides the ability to reliably and repeatedly perform tests, such as drawdown tests, on closely spaced apart formations intersected by subterranean wellbores without relying on absolute fluid pressure for actuation thereof. The formation testing system is configured for normal drilling operations or for fluid sampling operations by applying preselected differential pressures to the system. The formation testing system includes opposing pistons (68,74) which cooperate to open and close a valve.

Fluid is loaded into a subterranean formation (14) using an intensifier (34) comprising a power section (36) and a pump section (38). The power section includes a housing (42), a sleeve (44) slidably disposed within the housing (42), a piston (48) defining an interior volume (50), the piston being slidably disposed within the sleeve (44) and within the housing (42) such that a fluid pressure within the interior volume (50) causes the sleeve (44) to oscillate relative to the housing (42) and causes the piston (48) to oscillate relative to the sleeve (44) and the housing (42). The pump section (38) is operably associated with the piston such that the fluid pressure from the interior volume (50) is intensified in the pump section (38) and injected into the formation (14) as the piston (48) oscillates relative to the housing (42).

Apparatus operatively positionable in a subterranean well includes a releasable lock (34) including first, second and third members (84,86,78) releasably secured against displacement relative to each other, a force applied to the first member (84) being transmitted to the second member (86) when the third member (78) is disposed in a first position, and relative displacement being permitted between the first and second members (84,86) when the third member (78) is disposed in a second position. The releasable lock prevents operation of a device such as a ball valve (12) until a predetermined fluid pressure is applied to the exterior of the apparatus.

A method of displacing fluid between a formation (112) intersected by a wellbore (114) and an apparatus (10) disposed within the wellbore (114). The apparatus (10) includes axially spaced apart and radially outwardly extendable seal elements (92,94). The method comprises the steps of extending the seal elements (92,94) into sealing engagement with the formation (112), and compressing a volume (116) of fluid between the seal elements (92,94).
