    Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and devices related to buffered frame attack prevention. A communication device configured for operation in a communication network and does not support 802.1X authentication, the device including processing circuitry coupled to storage, the processing circuitry configured to: communicate, with a peer device, frames via an uncontrolled interface for authentication, association, and key negotiation; perform, with the peer device a 4-way handshake; communicate, with the peer device, data frames via a controlled interface after successful key negotiation, wherein the controlled interface may be blocked prior to successful key negotiation; receive, from the peer device, a power-mode indication that the peer device is entering a power-save mode; buffer data frames for the peer device for subsequent transmission to the peer device; and transmit, to the peer device, the buffered data frames only via the controlled interface.
