The invention relates to a method for damping torsional vibration in a drive train (1), which has an internal combustion engine (2), in particular a reciprocating piston engine, and at least one additional machine (3), in particular electric machine, connected to the internal combustion engine, wherein a torque impulse (M A ) is introduced into the drive train (1) by the internal combustion engine (2) during at least one first phase (A), and wherein at least one torque pulse (M B ) is specifically generated by the additional machine (3) to damp torsional vibration, wherein the torque impulse (M B ) of the additional machine (3) is introduced into the drive train (1) at a phase offset from the torque pulse (M A ) of the internal combustion engine (2) during at least one second phase (B) following the first phase (A). In order to achieve damping of the vibrations in the simplest and most efficient manner possible, according to the invention the torque impulse (M B ) generated by the additional machine is directed oppositely to the excitation by the internal combustion engine (2) such that the excitation frequency (f) is increased, preferably doubled.
