The present invention 1, 2 or 3 provides a desulfurization function-added FCC catalyst which can efficiently reduce the sulfur content of FCC gasoline while maintaining the yield of FCC gasoline in a process of producing FCC gasoline by cracking of heavy oil. The catalyst has vanadium supported on a carrier comprising (a) an alumina-coated zeolite and (b) a porous inorganic oxide except zeolite and/or a clay mineral, wherein the supported vanadium amount is from 500 to 20000 ppm by mass in terms of vanadium metal and the acid amount is from 20 to 450 µmol/g and the macropore surface area is from 30 to 150 m 2 /g; or the catalyst has vanadium supported on a carrier containing from 5 to 40 % by mass of (a) an alumina-coated zeolite and from 30 to 70 % by mass of (b) an alumina, wherein the vanadium concentration ratio before and after grinding the catalyst is at least 2; or the catalyst has at least vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus supported on a porous inorganic oxide-containing carrier, wherein the supported vanadium amount is from 500 to 20000 ppm by mass in terms of vanadium metal, vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus form a complex ion in the supporting solution for use in supporting vanadium and manganese and/or phosphorus, and the permeability of the complex ion through a reverse osmosis membrane is at most 25 % relative to the permeability of vanadium through the reverse osmosis membrane.

A suspension of alumina gel obtained by dispersing alumina gel into pure water so that the concentration of alumina is in the range of 0.1-12 wt.% and an aqueous solution of metallic salt in which a compound of metal in VIA group and that of metal in VIII group are dissolved are mixed, and the resultant mixture is dried and hardened by evaporating the water while agitating the mixture, whereby these metal components can be supported effectively on the alumina gel up to a sufficiently high support quantity. This enables a high-performance catalyst composition constituting a catalyst the performance, such as activity, of which is superior to that of a hydrogen treated catalyst, and such as a conventional hydrodesulfurized molten catalysts to be obtained easily. When this catalyst composition is brought into contact with sulfur-containing hydrocarbon in the presence of hydrogen, hydrocarbons from which sulfur has been sufficiently removed can be obtained.

A catalyst for hydrocracking of heavy oil which comprises a support comprising crystalline aluminosilicate and a porous inorganic oxide excluding the crystalline aluminosilicate and an active metal supported on the support, wherein (a) the support comprises the crystalline aluminosilicate in an amount of 18% by mass or greater and smaller than 45% by mass and the porous inorganic oxide in an amount exceeding 55% by mass and of 82% by mass or smaller based on a sum of the amount of the crystalline aluminosilicate and the amount of the porous inorganic aluminosilicate, (b) the active metal is at least one metal selected from molybdenum, tungsten and nickel, and (c) the distribution of pores in the catalyst for hydrocracking of heavy oil is such that a volume of pores having a diameter of 500 to 10,000 Å is 10% or smaller and a volume of pores having a diameter of 100 to 200 Å is 60% or greater based on a volume of entire pores having a diameter of 50 to 10,000 Å. The catalyst exhibits excellent desulfurizing function and excellent activity for decomposition of fractions having a high boiling point of 525°C or higher such as the vacuum residue.
