The printer subsystem is inter-connected with a host system (1) for receiving command and data information through an interface (201), the data information being entered into two text buffers, in storage (216), each of which can accommodate a complete line of data to be printed. Provision is made for entering blank characters into the text buffers each time before significant data information is entered to thereby insure that areas such as the left and right margins which are not to be printed will not have any extraneous data present therein.

The printer subsystem has two microprocessors (200, 210), one of which communicates (200) with the host system for transfer of command, data, and status signals and the other of which (210) directly controls the printer unit in the subsystem especially with respect to the print assembly forms feed assembly, ribbon drive assembly, and print wire actuators. Interconnecting means (225, 226, 228) are provided between the first and the second microprocessors to receive command and data signals from the first micropro- ' cessor to produce control signals and character image signals for use by the printer unit.
