The invention relates to a kit for the coloring of disinfected areas of a surface, the kit comprising a) at least one swab of surgical gauze and b) liquid disinfectant, wherein the swab is dry and is dyed with colorant, and the liquid disinfectant, when brought in contact with the at least one dry swab, dissolves the colorant at least partially, to result in a swab impregnated with colored disinfectant. According to the invention, kits can be put together such that customary swabs from surgical gauze can be dyed. The colorant is then dissolved from the swab using the disinfectant, so as to result in a colored disinfectant. The colored disinfectant can be used to indicate disinfected areas.
