The invention relates to a method of making a fabric comprising: preparing a thermoplastic polyurethane composition, wherein said thermoplastic polyurethane composition comprises: a thermoplastic polyurethane comprising the reaction product of: (i) one or more polyols, (ii) one or more diisocyanates, (iii) one or more chain extenders, (iv) optionally one or more crosslinking agents, and (v) one or more functional modifiers, wherein each said functional modifier is a reaction product of an aminodiol and a Bronsted acid and wherein the functional modifier is incorporated into the backbone of the thermoplastic polyurethane; melt-spinning said thermoplastic polyurethane composition into a fiber; and processing the fiber into a fabric and a method of producing an article of clothing.

A process of making a thermoplastic polyurethane by the reaction of (1) a hydroxyl terminated polyester intermediate, wherein the hydroxyl terminated polyester intermediate is comprised of repeat units that are derived from adipic acid and a glycol component comprising 1,3-propylene glycol, and said hydroxyl terminated intermediate has a number average molecular weight which is within the range of 500 to 10,000 Daltons, (2) a diisocyanate; and (3) a glycol chain extender. This thermoplastic polyurethane by this process is unique in that it has a greatly reduced tendency to bloom. This is highly desirable in applications where high clarity is desired because blooming causes articles containing the thermoplastic polyurethane to be hazy or foggy in appearance. Blooming can also reduce the ability of an article made with the thermoplastic polyurethane to be securely bound to another article with an adhesive.
