Abstract:
A data transfer method for preventing the malfunction of the conventional equipment which does not cope with encipherment at the time of transmitting enciphered AV information protected by a copyright through an IEEE 1394 bus. In the method, cipher identification information indicating the state of encipherment of a real data part and the real data part are contained in synchronous data transferred through isochronous communication and encipherment is effected only on the real data part. According to this method, a transmitter transmits cipher identification information indicating the state of encipherment of the real data part contained in the synchronous data together with real data and a receiver which detects the fact that the real data part has been enciphered from the cipher identification information requests the transmitter to send deciphering information and, upon receiving this information from the transmitter in response to the request, deciphers the real data part by using the deciphering information.
Abstract:
The problem to be solved is that once copyright claimed AV data is passed to application software, the application software can freely process the AV data for recording, etc., defeating the purpose of copyright protection. The invention provides a computer which comprises a system section 12 and an application software section 13, and which takes in copyright claimed, encrypted data via a digital interface 1 for processing therein, wherein the system section 12 judges that the application software section 13 is legitimate application software for the protection of copyright, and if the application software is a legitimate one, the system section 12 passes a key for the encrypted data to the application software section 13.

A digital AV data transmitting unit comprises a data importance judging section for judging the importance of digital AV data, a transmitting-side multiple authentication rule storage section stored with multiple kinds of authentication rules, a transmitting-side authentication selecting section for selecting one kind of rules from the transmitting-side multiple authentication rule storage section, and a transmitting-side authenticating section for carrying out authentication based on the selected authentication rules. A digital AV data receiving unit comprises an authentication requesting section for making an authentication request, a receiving-side multiple authentication rule storage section stored with the same authentication rules as those stored in the transmitting-side multiple authentication rule storage section, a receiving-side authentication selecting section for selecting the predetermined authentication rules selected by the transmitting-side authentication selecting section from the receiving-side multiple authentication rule storage section, and a receiving-side authenticating section for carrying out authentication based on the authentication rules selected on the receiving side.

A data transmitting and receiving method for improving transmission and reception efficiency can be obtained by improving the security through update of a control key and reduction of the frequency of the authentication and key exchange process. An STB 1 transmits encrypted digital data Kw (D) obtained by encrypting digital data D using a work key Kw, and an encrypted work key Kc (Kw) obtained by encrypting the Kw using a control key Kc. The Kc is periodically or non-periodically updated, and an identifier L identifying the Kc is assigned to each Kc. A VTR device 2 decrypts the received Kc (Kw) using the Kc obtained by performing the authentication and key exchange process with the STB 1, decrypts the Kw (D) received using the Kw to obtain the D. It is determined whether or not the Kc has been updated while the reception process is suspended by referring to the transmitted L when the reception process is suspended and then resumed. If it is determined that the Kc has been updated, then the authentication and key exchange process is performed again to obtain the updated Kc.

The AV data transmitting apparatus according to the present invention is an AV data transmitting apparatus which transmits AV data to an other apparatus, and includes: a recording unit that records AV data; an AV data transmitting unit which transmits, to the other apparatus, the AV data recorded by the recording unit; a notification receiving unit that receives, from the other apparatus, a success notification indicating that the recording of the AD data has succeeded; a control unit that performs processing to delete or invalidate the AV data recorded by the recording unit in the case where the success notification is received by the notification receiving unit; and a response transmitting unit that transmits, to the other apparatus, a notification response indicating a result of the processing performed by the control unit.

A recording device records various items of information onto a removable medium. The recording device includes a medium unit in which a removable medium is set, an obtaining unit that obtains information from an external source, a specifying unit that specifies an item of information whose recording detail is defined by a data format of the removable medium that is set in the medium unit, and a recording unit that judges whether an item of the information obtained by the obtaining unit matches the item specified by the specifying unit and records the obtained information onto the removable medium when judging affirmatively and onto another medium when judging negatively.

When the kind of disk is changed by reformatting the disk inserted, a control cannot be made in accordance with the standard corresponding to the kind of the reformatted disk. There are provided an output step of outputting to an STB 100 the information indicating that reading the disk information is impossible when a DVD recorder 200 receives a read request of the disk information from the STB 100 having a read right of the descriptor during initialization of the replaceable disk, and an acquisition step of acquiring a descriptor identifier from the DVD recorder 200, when the STB 100 requests again the read right of the descriptor firstly after the DVD recorder 200 outputs to the STB 100 the information indicating that reading the disk information is impossible.

A recording and reproducing apparatus is characterized in that said apparatus has: inputting means for receiving a packet data which is based on IEEE 1394, and in which signal information for indicating copy right information of an AV data (hereinafter, referred to as EMI) is provided in a header of a packet according to IEEE 1394; and recording and reproducing means for recording and reproducing an AV data and the EMI which are held in the packet data received by said inputting means. Four kinds of EMI are used, and, when an AV data indicating allowance "copy one generation" among them is to be recorded, said recording and reproducing means performs recording while rewriting the EMI to EMI indicating "no more copy."
Abstract:
A data transfer method which eliminates erroneous operation of conventional devices not supporting encryption when copy-protected AV information is encrypted and sent on the IEEE 1394 bus. Synchronous data transferred through isochronous communication contains i) encryption identification information for indicating encryption of actual data and ii) actual data. Only the actual data is encrypted. Encryption identification information indicating encryption status of actual data in synchronous data is sent together with actual data from the sending device. A receiving device detecting encryption of actual data from this encryption identification information requests for decrypting information to the sending device. The receiving device decrypts the actual data using decrypting information received from the sending device according to this request.
