The composition is easily molded to make components such as automobile parts having good mechanical properties.

(1) 50-97% of a polyphenylene ether (which may be a copolymer), e.g. poly(2,6-dimethylphenol), of a mol. wt. so as to have intrinsic viscosity of 0.35-0.7 dl/g at 30°C, and a polyamide resin (e.g. a nylon); (2) 3-50% of a block copolymer A-B A-B A) n where m =0 or an integer, n =0 or 1, A is an aromatic vinyl compound (e.g. styrene) and B is a conjugated diene (e.g. butadiene) and may include another hydrocarbon; block A content is 20-50%; the copolymer having a solution viscosity at 25°C of 200-100,000 cps; and (3) 0.01-30% of a compound having in its molecule an unsaturated bond and a polar group, e.g. having affinity to the amido link in the polyamide (e.g. an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or an hydride).
The composition is moldable and has good mechanical strength and solvent resistance.

A blend is made of, by weight (a) 10-70 parts of a polyphenylene ether which may have various substituents on the phenyl nucleus, and has at least 50 recurring units, (b) 30-90 parts of a polyamide (a nylon) and optionally (c) 3-50% of a rubbery polymer which is elastic at room temperature (e.g. a copolymer of an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene); and as a stabilizer, a thioether compound (preferably of formula R⁰-S-CHR¹R², where the Rs are hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon groups of 1-35 C atoms and R¹ and R² can be H; 28 specific compounds are shown. Optional further ingredients are 0.01-5 parts of sterically hindered phenol compound; and 0.01 to 30 parts of a compound containing a -C=C- or -C=C- bond and a polar group (e.g. carboxyl group), per 100 parts of (a), (b) and (c). The blending can be at 200-380°C, and the melt is extruded and pelletised. The resultant resin composition can be molded into products of large size, e.g. for automobile parts, and is highly resistant to solvents.

A sheet of a polymer comprising at least 50 mol% of units of an olefin (e.g. polypropylene ) is coated on one surface with an aqueous solution or dispersion (A) 55 to 90% of a polymer comprising an olefin; (B) 1 to 30% of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid; and (C) 10 to 30% of a polymer containing styrene units. The sheet optionally contains up to 65% of an inorganic fine powder. The adhesive layer adheres strongly to a cellular foamed polyurethane, to form a composite heat-insulating material without voids. The polymer sheet can be deep-drawn to shape, adhesive-coated, placed over the metal pressing of a refrigerator body or door, and the urethane components injected through a hole in the sheet so that the polyurethane is formed between the sheet and the metal pressing and is foamed and adhered in situ ; the sheet can be a laminate having a lustrous outer surface layer.
