Disclosed herein is a coloring-time controlling layer suitable for use in a temperature-control indicator unit. The coloring-time controlling layer is composed of a film obtained by drying an emulsion of a polymer containing styrene and/or acrylonitrile as constituent unit(s) and interposed between [A] a layer containing microcapsules of an oily substance and [B] another layer containing a substance capable of inducing coloring upon contact with the oily substance. In a preferred embodiment, the coloring-time controlling layer is used for a temperature-control indicator unit comprising microcapsules containing a hydrophobic organic compound having a desired melting point, a methine-type dyestuff precursor and an oxidizing substance.

A temperature history indicator includes a region 6 with a hydrophobic organic compound enclosed in microcapsules. If the temperature rises higher than a certain value, the compound melts and diffuses, causing a dye-precursor and a color developer to contact each other to irreversibly achieve color development. This color development system 7 is rendered operative when the high temperature rise continues for a predetermined time period. The top of the color development system is coated with a transparent material 11 with a bonding agent 8 arranged so as neither to break those chemical compositions which cause the color development nor to lower their color developing function.

Disclosed is a pressure sensitive recording unit which comprises a single base web sheet and a methine-type dyestuff and an organic oxidizing compound both supported on the single base web sheet, or a combination of first and second base web sheets and the methine-type dyestuff and organic oxidizing compound supported individually on the first and second base web sheets. Such a recording unit includes for example a pressure sensitive recording unit formed in combination of (a) a back-coated topsheet (CB-sheet) making use of microscopic capsules containing a solution obtained by dissolving a methine-type dyestuff in a solvent having a high boiling point and (b) a front-coated undersheet (CF-sheet) carrying an organic oxidizing compound coated thereon. Also disclosed is a pressure sensitive recording unit which includes a base web sheet carrying thereon such a methme-type dyestuff together with a metal ion sequestering agent and/or alkanol amine.
