A concentrated shellfish extract is prepared by subjecting an extract of a shellfish (exclusive of oyster) having a solid concentration not higher than 30% by weight to an adsorption purification treatment with an adsorbent composed mainly of a water-insoluble inorganic magnesium compound, which has a specific surface area of at least 50 m²/g, and concentrating the refined liquid in a substantially non-oxidizing atmosphere. In this shellfish extract concentrate, black and blackish brown coloring components are not contained, and flavor components and nutrients are not substantially lost. Accordingly, this shellfish extract concentrate is excellent in taste, flavor and hue.

An oxide or hydroxide mixture or coprecipitate having a three-component oxide compositn comprising 5 to 45 mole% of SiO 2 , 35 to 65 mole% of ZnO and 0 to 60 mole% of Al 2 O 3 is heated in the presence of water to form a crystal of the fraipontite type. The obtained synthetic mineral has a fraipontite type crystal structure and has a high whiteness and a large specific surface area. For example, this synthetic mineral is valuable as a color developer for a leuco dye.

A composite filler for the heat-sensitive recording layer of heat-sensitive recording paper comprises amorphous silica having the same BET specific surface area and bulk density and such a secondary particle size distribution that secondary particles having size smaller than 4 pm, as measured by the centrifugal precipitation method, constitute at least 70% by weight of the total particles, and fine particles of amino resin obtained by condensing substantially equimolar amounts of a functional amino group-containing component and a formaldehyde component in the presence of a catalyst and which has an oil absorption of 20 to 90 mi/100 g and a specific surface area smaller than 20 m 2 /g, at a weight ratio of amorphous silica: amino resin particles of from 90:10 to 10:90.
