The present invention is to provide a rotary electric machine whose rotor is reduced in weight and inertial mass. A rotor, comprising a first yoke and both magnets and control magnetic poles, is arranged. The first yoke is formed like a bottom hollow cylinder as surrounding an outer surface of a stator. A second yoke is magnetically connected to a stator core so as to cover an outer surface of a cylindrical section of the first yoke in an opposite side of the first yoke. A field coil is provided between the stator core and the second yoke. A closed magnetic circuit is thereby formed, which extends from the second yoke through the cylindrical section of the first yoke, the control magnetic poles, and the stator core to the second yoke. Gaps are provided between a boss section of the second yoke and the first yoke, thereby magnetically insulating the boss section and the first yoke from each other. The first yoke and a boss rotor do not depend upon forming a magnetic circuit of the field coil, so that the first yoke can be thin in thickness, the boss rotor can be small in size, and both the first yoke and the boss rotor can be reduced in weight and inertia mass.

A pulser waveform from a pulser coil 2 provided on the side of an engine 1 are shaped by a pulser circuit 3 and then forwarded to a CPU 4 to which a rewritable non-volatile memory 5 for storing ignition timing values is connected. Between the pulser coil 2 and the pulser circuit 3 is provided a mode selection switch SW1 so that when entering a maintenance mode, the voltage of a battery 6 is input to the pulser circuit 3 instead of the pulse signals from the pulser coil 2. Evaluating the pulse width of the shaped pulse signal from the pulser circuit 3, the CPU 4 selectively enters a usual ignition control mode or the maintenance mode.

In an ignition system for an internal combustion engine of a motorcycle comprising an electric generator; an ignition circuit connected to the electric generator for producing a spark voltage for a spark plug; a battery having an end connected to the electric generator via switching means, and another end connected to the ground; and an electrical load connected in parallel with the battery, the switching means includes a voltage detector for detecting an output voltage of the electric generator, and a switching element for disconnecting the battery and the electrical load from the electric generator when the output voltage detected by the voltage detector is below a prescribed value. Because the electrical load and the battery are disconnected from the generator when the output voltage of the generator is below a prescribed value, the output voltage can go up to the prescribed value or higher which is sufficient for the ignition circuit to properly operate so as to produce a spark voltage for a spark plug, with the result that the internal combustion engine can be easily started by operating a kickstarter of the motorcycle.

In an engine ignition system utilizing an AC generator (1) for supplying an electric power to an ignition coil (13), a phase relationship between the generator voltage and an ignition timing (T1) is determined so that an electric current flowing through a primary winding (L1) of the ignition coil (13) due to the voltage generation by the AC generator (1) at the ignition timing (T1) is greater than a predetermined current (Ad) required to produce a sufficient spark from a spark plug (14). Such an ignition system can advantageously ensure achieving ignition even when the battery is disconnected or totally discharged. Preferably, a capacitor (C1) is connected in parallel with the primary winding (L1) of the ignition coil (13). A stator core (6) for supporting a stator coil (5) in the AC generator (1) may be circumferentially displaceable to adjust the phase relationship between the ignition timing and the generator voltage.

Provided is a code verification system which allows verification of a unique code in a both quick and reliable manner by using simple structure. An anti-theft ignition key device (7,8) using such a code verification system can improve the level of security and startability of an engine. By receiving a signal from a transmitter (7) for a time duration corresponding to the time duration of a unique code with a receiver, detecting a start point of a code contained in the signal, and moving a section of the signal preceding the start point to the end of the data for determining the authenticity of the thus reconstructed code as the unique code, the unique code can be verified in a both quick and reliable manner without complicating the structure.
